Mrs. Cotton Candy's Picture
Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.
About Mrs. Cotton Candy

Chair Addict

April 1st, 2011 @ 3:31 pm by Mrs. Cotton Candy

Hive, I have a confession to make. I’m an addicted who’s hopelessly hooked on chairs. It’s a horrible addiction that eats up precious square footage and on a monthly basis, costs me money in the form of storage fees. Currently our tiny little home is filled with over 12 chairs, with three alone taking up space in our bedroom. But oh, how I love all my chairs, regardless of the space they eat up. I was looking for a way to incorporate this love of mine into our wedding day when I stumbled upon this picture-

Mini Eames chairs as cake toppers—and not just any chairs, but the Eames lounge chair of my dreams! It’s the one that I have made Mr. CC promise me we will own once we buy a home and become real adults! I loved it, wanted it, and had to have it! That is, until I showed the pic to Mr. CC and he flat out said no. He refused to have his likeness compared to something the size of a chair. Oi, men and their random moments of vanity.

Since Mr CC vetoed my chair cake topper, I’ve been on the hunt for a way to bring a little chair love to our wedding. What do you guys think of vintage chair thank you cards?

I can follow in Mrs. Taffy’s footsteps and slap these oh-so-lustworthy Eames stamps on our invites. Since the stamps were limited edition and are no longer in production, this might set us back a pretty penny, but I still love them.

Or should I keep it classic and add some flair to our chairs?

At the beginning of our engagement I had this grand idea of finding and re-upholstering mismatched vintage dining chairs for us to sit in, but as time ticks by I think I’ll have to abandon that plan in favor of one of the ideas above.

Has your groom had a random moment of vanity during your wedding planning? How are you incorporating your loves into your wedding?

It’s a Jewish tradition to decorate the bride & grooms’ chairs (and then toss them in the air). Not sure where that came from, but I’ve seen some fun ones at the weddings I’ve been to.

I like the chair thank yous best, although it’s admittedly a bit random.

I tried to find a link to the history of the chair toss and was reminded instead of another custom:

“When guests arrive at the ceremony, male guests go into a room with the bridegroom while the female guests go into a room where the bride is sitting on a throne-type chair. This traditional “public beckoning” is common and actually may be “private,” with just family and wedding party in attendance.”

I know we are supposed to comment on incorporating chairs into your wedding, but I just wanted to say that think it’s awesome that you are obsessed with chairs. I totally share your obsession and thought I was an odd duck until now. My personal favourite is the LCW. Functional.simple.modern.beautiful.

Anyway, about your wedding, have you got an idea for your table numbers yet? You could always have chair silhouettes instead of the standard digits. Or, if you are the crafty type, why not make wire models of chairs that you can incorporate your numbers into?

That Eames Chair topper is TOO CUTE.

My vanity project was our photo booth; I can’t get enough of those and had to (yep, had to) have one for our wedding.

I’d keep it classic and just add decor to your chairs. The chair cake toppers are a little odd imo.

Luckily, Mr. B doesn’t care at all about anything. But I love chairs too! That cake topper is awesome!

I love those cards!!! Some friends of ours had a catholic ceremony, and used two Eames molded plywood chairs during the seated portions of the ceremony! It was awesome. (I think the chairs were a wedding gift!)

You could incorporate vintage chairs in a photobooth. I’m thinking the backdrop could be silhouettes of your iconic chairs! No upholstering or massive project required.

If you can afford it, go for those stamps as they are lovely!! And you only need a couple of cool chairs for yourself and the Mr., maybe you can focus on those!
