Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

Thank you to one of my BMs for that fabulous title. It was her Facebook status a couple months ago and I just loved it!

Have you ever heard a song and thought about having it be a part of your wedding day, even though it’s totally ridiculous? At brunch last weekend, the performer played an acoustic version of Justin Beiber’s Baby and I suddenly thought it would be so fabulous for the wedding party to walk down the aisle to it. I mean, c’mon, nothing makes people smile and all lovey dovey like the teen sensation. Then I actually listened to the lyrics and realized that while the song has made me smile since it was on Glee, it’s actually about his heart being broken. Probably not a good fit, huh? Oh, but how awesome would it have been??

Just smile and enjoy it!

Justin Beiber - “Baby”

With Beiber off the table, I was on to Plan B (also with my latest Glee soundtrack in tow):

Marry Me by Bruno Mars. C’mon the Glee kids performed that at the wedding of Mike O’Malley to Finn’s mom! It has a pretty awesome beat and it’s about getting married! Oh wait, those lyrics say “We’re looking for something dumb to do” and the solution is getting married. Nope, that’s not what I’m thinking at all! I want to get married because I’m in love like Mr. Mars, but it’s been well thought out and a really big deal. Sorry, Bruno, I don’t have that much faith in your marriage advice.

Marry You” on Fox’s Glee

Then at the Bon Jovi concert a couple of weeks ago, the Baconator and I found ourselves swaying along to the third encore, I’ll Be There for You. The chorus is pretty epic and I loved it on the spot.

I’ll be there for you

These five words I swear to you

When you breathe I want to be the air for you

I’ll be there for you

I’d live and I’d die for you

Steal the sun from the sky for you

Words can’t say what a love can do

I’ll be there for you

Oh yeah, now that’s what I’m talking about. So after the concert, I went home and listened to the whole thing with a more critical ear. Jon Bon Jovi is quite the Casablanca, but it was quickly apparent that this song was out of the running, too. It’s all about how he’s heartbroken and if he gets just one more chance, he’ll always be at her side. Not wedding appropriate at all.

Please notice the crazy ’80s hair

Bon Jovi - I’ll Be There For You

Now we’re back to the drawing board on ways to personalize our wedding music. Do you ever get hit with totally off the mark inspiration?

Ahahahaha, after that intro title, I’m just glad you’re not planning to walk down the aisle to “Grenade.” Because I might seriously have died laughing. :)

I have these problems too! Every song that seems to be perfect is actually about heartbreak or silly. I also love Glee’s version of “Marry You!” Good luck Miss Bacon.

Ha…we really wanted to use Bruno Mars’ “Marry You,” but in the second verse it says “if we wake up and we wanna break up, it’s cool…” so yeah, absolutely not gonna work. ;) Keep looking and I’m sure you’ll find something personal and fun that actually supports the institution of marriage! On the GLEE subject though, our families are walking in to Lucky (Glee version instead of Colbie Callait/Jason Mraz)

This may be the dorkiest of them all, but the song that never fails to make me smile is when “Uncle Jesse” sings forever on full house. After happening to catch that one part at 7am the other day and instantly having a smile on my face, I couldn’t help thinking that it would be perfect

Yeah. There are a lot of songs that I like the beat to but when I listen to the lyrics, they are totally inappropriate for a wedding. So, what do I do? I look for the instrumental version. Lol! So what if people know the lyrics. As long as I like the instrumental version…Im using it! lol! :-)

I absolutely want to play “Marry You” Glee version after we are annouced.. but I keep thinking that the words “shots of patron…” loudly echoing throughout the church would be a little *awkward*… but im thinking that maybe after we are announced and everyone’s leaving the church, no one will really listen that much to the words… i just love this song though!

My boss’s six-year-old daughter had to write a love poem in school, and it went “I like you so much I’d jump in front of a train for you/I’d take a bullet in my brain for you/I want to die over and over for you” — haha! Her teachers were HORRIFIED and his wife had to explain that it was from a Bruno Mars song. Funny story, right?

Our wedding party is walking to an VSQ instramental version Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin. My fiance LOVEs Journey and so do his friends so I wish I could see their faces when they recognize the tune.

I really like the song Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat–we’ll play it at the cocktail hour

Ok, I’ll give ideas too! How about “Question” by the Old ’97s, or Coldplay’s “Yellow”?

I think that I finally found someone by Brian Adams & Barbara Streisand is a good one

@Wehaf: OMG, that song is so perfect!! It kind makes me want to skip down the aisle, though. I wonder if I could mix it and slow it down a bit.
@ms. cupcake: Oh Uncle Jesse, such a dreamboat.
@meanttobee: That is such a good idea! Maybe Beiber is back on the table. LOL!
@Miss Panther: Seriously, that’s the best story ever. Ever.
@Courtnee & @pinkpaperbride: Lucky is totally at the top of my list!

Mr. G and I are total Gleeks and when we heard Marry You we thought it would be a perfect song. And….then we listened to the lyrics. A super fun and catchy tune, but maybe not quite the sentiment we are going for!

I wanted to walk down the aisle to Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah played by our ceremony musician on classical guitar…if no one knows the words other than the chorus it sounds so beautiful. BUT if we have any true music fans in the crowd, they may find it odd that I’m walking down the aisle to a song that says “Love is not a victory march, but a cold and broken hallelujah” plus there’s this weird part about tying him to a kitchen chair and cutting his hair (which truly I may have to do - FI’s hair is out of control!). Either way, I fully understand your dilemna! Good luck on finding the perfect song!

“Marry You” is on our must play list for the reception! I also hesitated about using it during the ceremony because of the eyebrow-raising lyrics.

I *just* heard this song on the radio today: what about Colbie Caillat’s “I Do?”

Love that scene from Glee! I downloaded that song as soon as the episode was over.

Our entrance song from Fall Out Boy would probably raise some eyebrows if people listened to the lyrics, but we doubt much past the opening (which we love, and saw them in concert) since we’ll go into our first dance.

frenchiebride: I’d walk down the isle to Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah. Love isn’t all about the highs, it’s about the lows too and sticking by each other no matter what. It’s one of my favourite songs. If you and your SO like it, who cares what other people think?

@Miss Bacon: Good Luck finding a song!!

I love Train’s Marry Me… but if you listen to the words, he hasn’t even said hello to this girl lol? Sweet song, though!

These are sort of unconventional love songs, but I like the words to all of them…Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, or “If I Needed You” by Townes VanZandt, or Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love”, and even “Joy of My Life” by John Fogerty.

I thought the exact same thing about the Bruno Mars song! Why would that be something dumb? And why did he keep talking about getting drunk first?

Ahhhh! Whatever, Bruno!
