Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

Ten Days

April 1st, 2011 @ 10:16 am by Mrs. Brooch

This is going to be one of those posts without pictures so if you want to skip over it, that’s cool with me. I totally understand because your appetites are still strong for fresh wedding inspiration and there is so much to soak in and not much time. I’m turning over a new leaf, though. The days of new project ideas and planning are behind me. I’ll admit, I’m sad to see them go, but I’m also happy to embrace our wedding, and take a break from the millions online.

We’re 10 days out and the adrenaline, nervousness, excitement, and joy are all beginning to rise to the top of this cup called “wedding!” I feel as though I could cry tears of joy at any minute because it’s finally upon us. The wait is finally over! After 18 long months thinking about this day, it’s suddenly right around the corner and well, I’m a bit shy to it. I’m pretty comfortable here behind the computer, looking at weddings, but now… it’s my turn. Getting my toes wet, the water feels cold. I’m not sure I want to jump in (and let go of everything: the to-do lists, ideas, worries), but I know if I do, I will warm up fast and it will feel so good.

There’s a lot going on for the Brooches this next week and while the wedding is most definitely the highlight, we’re pretty stoked to be moving in together, too! After such a long wait, against all odds, amid the breakups and make ups, discussions and dreams, we’ve arrived! This water I’m ready to jump into!

We’ve already planned our first week living together/last week single. It involves a lot of prayer, thanksgiving, and definitely, fully becoming one. I’ll be relying heavily on Mr. B to keep me calm. When I say, “Let’s forget the photobooth, we don’t have props,” he’ll say, “We’ll get some from the dollar store!” When I fret about the forecast, he’ll remind me that I can’t control the weather.

He’ll be relying on me too, of course. There’s no doubt he is counting on me to unclench my fists from around our wedding and grab his hand instead. It’s really the only way.

And then, well, guys, I’ll be writing my last post as a Miss! I’m already thinking about it to be honest. How do you put into words all the love and support and just everything that is Weddingbee? I don’t think you can…

In the meantime, if my posts and comments are scarce know it’s because I’m moving from behind the screen into the spotlight. I’m finishing up projects, unpacking into my new life, getting pampered, and having lots of laughs and happy cries with friends and family… thinking of you always.

How did you feel 10 days out?

I’m just seven short days behind you and 17 days feel pretty darn nerve-wracking. I just home that a week from now I can be as calm, cool, and collected as you seem to be!

I know a lot of brides have opposite experiences from me, but my final week to 10days was the most exciting time of the whole process. There was something about the anticipation, combined with getting a few last minute details done, combined with finally coming to the realization that everything would be great no matter what. The support of my family and friends that had at times been overwhelming became exactly what I needed and I appreciated every bit of it. I was even able to take a couple (short) time outs to think about how much I was enjoying that last week. I truly truly hope you enjoy these last few days of your engagement and can one day look back on them as fondly as I do! Best wishes Brooch and I am so looking forward to your recaps :)

I love your candor, Broochy, and am so glad to know that you will be redirecting your focus onto yourself and Mr. B, family and the happiness and splendor that you can embrace between now and the Big Day. I also admire the fact that you recognize that you and the Mr. are in this together, and it is this mindset that will serve you very well after you’ve said “I do.” Best wishes and lots n lots of sunshine and fun. We’ll see you on the other side.

Brooch:

I have some days left until I feel like you, I wish you all the best, many congrats!!

I have heard some suggestions that I’ll pass along:
*Don’t expect EVERYTHING to be too perfect or exactly as you planned
*The day of your wedding try not to call any provider, that just adds up stress
*ENJOY EVERY SECOND OF IT! It is only one day and when it’s over you’ll notice it went too fast.. enjoy every bit of it, the look on your fiancee when he sees you all dressed up and beautiful, how everyone looks so happy for you both, how pretty is the church and the venue.. enjoy dancing, talking and taking pictures with all the guests, even smell of the air and the wheather!

Have a wonderful wedding!!
