On New Traditions

April 1st, 2011 @ 9:17 am by Mrs. Tartlet

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

-Robert Brault

It was the first week of May 2010—one full year before Mr. Tartlet and I would take our vows. Around this time I had hit the wedding planning doldrums. Our engagement photos had been taken. Our venue was decided. Florist, videographer, baker—all booked, booked, and booked. I had lapsed on reading wedding blogs, and found myself getting irrationally irritated when someone would inquire as to how wedding planning was going (because it wasn’t). I was stuck in another dreaded “waiting” phase. At any rate, the day started out just like any other: I hit the snooze on my alarm a couple times. I walked the 10 minutes to work. I grabbed a very large coffee from the Java City in the lobby and proceeded to take the elevator up five floors to the lab. Little did I know that it was no ordinary day, because BM Tanya had brought in a beautifully wrapped box and this delightfully cute card:

Thrilled, I carefully unwrapped the box to reveal these beauties:

This unexpected gift brought tears to my eyes. Having such a long engagement often threatened the wedding day to fall into the category of “old news,” and such a thoughtful gesture rekindled my excitement. The gifting of toasting flutes is a tradition that started between Tanya and her best friend, K. K went on a European tour the year BM Tanya got engaged and brought home a pair of toasting flutes from the Waterford Crystal Factory as an engagement gift. BM Tanya reciprocated by gifting K with a set one year before their wedding day, and continued the tradition with me. Every year on their anniversary, BM Tanya and her husband bring out their toasting flutes to celebrate, and I’m looking forward to doing the same. I’m also eagerly awaiting the next person in my life who gets engaged so I can pay this tradition forward. *wink*

What helped you get past the wedding planning blues? Are you starting any new traditions?

@chrispygal, @Miss Hyena, @mrsbowieii: Thanks, gals!
@CorgiTales: Aren’t they lovely? :D I’m pretty sure she got them at Macy’s!
@Miss Ostrich: Oh boy–she’s awesome in general, but has really gone above and beyond throughout this wedding planning process. I keep telling her to start her own biz!
@future.mrs.awe: Hope you get that approval. ;)
@Mrs. Meerkat: Thanks, lady!
@Baileyh: Haha! I think it’s a Costco card–T bought a huge bulk variety pack because she knew I’d love that one. :)

Yay!! What a sweet gift!! Those were our toasting flutes as well. We got them for a shower gift and I totally cried since I knew they were expensive… and the Mister really liked them… and I thought no one would get them for us so I was saving my unemployment money to get them for us. I can’t wait to bring them out for our 1 year :)

that is so sweet! I absolutely love traditions like that. We have a longer engagement too so on what will be our anniversary we went to the winery we are getting married at for a romantic dinner.
