Mrs. Hyena's Picture
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TX Age and Occupation: 23, Marketing Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad Student Engagement Date: January 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Downtown 202 About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
About Mrs. Hyena

Last July, Hyena Sis called me to tell me about a recent purchase she’d made. Real hair extensions! Because they’re made of real hair, they can be curled, washed, straightened, and styled just like the rest of your hair. :) Hyena Sis has the same hair color as I do, although I’ve dyed mine a few (OK, a lot) more times than she has, so my ends are a little bit lighter than the rest of my hair. But, because she’s a good sister, she offered to let me borrow them from her for the wedding. Hooray!

Mr. H was not on board with this when I first mentioned it. He said he liked my normal hair. Duly noted. :)

My current hair

The extensions are long enough that they’d probably look a little weird if I chopped my hair off and tried to pull them off, but if I let it keep growing, they’d probably look pretty natural. Hyena Sis is also considering cutting them to be a little bit shorter. But it’s cool to know that it’s an option!

Extensions! (all photos personal)

Obviously I’d like my hair to be curly, which will probably make the extensions blend in better as well.

Would you try extensions for your wedding hair?

I think they look great! Once you style your hair curly or even just add a little wave to it they will blend in perfectly. Even with the way your hair is now it just makes it look like you have a layered cut. I’m sure you can also find a good hairdresser that can blend them more naturally. The color is pretty spot on too. Good luck!

I like them a lot. You now have (what I’ve been calling it for the past year and so desperately have been trying for) wedding hair!

They look great! The color of the extensions is great! I agree with you once you curl your hair then the extension will blend in with the rest of your hair! I think I’m going to go with hair extension also! I’ve been trying to grow mine out but it hasn’t gotten the length I want it to be!

Those are really neat! They blend in so well with your natural hair color. Could you tell us the brand?

I’m contemplating using extensions myself, yes. I have very fine and thin hair, I never do anything to it beyond washing and drying (mainly because I’m completely clueless) so I REALLY want to have curly hair and feel feminine on my wedding day. Extensions are the only way that’s possible.

The extensions look great! I am using extensions on my wedding day and we have similar looking hair and they looked fabulous during my hair trial. In the pictures, it blended so perfectly that I couldn’t tell where my hair began and the extensions ended. For those considering extensions, but concerned about the cost, I found mine on EBay at a much lower cost than what I was able to find in stores.

@Kathyf1323: Thanks!
@futuremrshc: I’m not sure, but I’ve emailed Hyena Sis to find out what brand they are, and if she knows I’ll send you a PM.
@breckbride: That’s a great tip!
@soonerpsych: Nice to meet another Sooner in the hive! Boomer Sooner!

It looks really natural. It just looks like you have layers in your hair.

@Sunlavender: I was thinking the same thing!

I’m so impressed! Extensions are still a bit of a mystery to me, so I’m very curious to see how they work if you choose to use them!

@Miss Tartlet: This was the first time I’d ever tried them! All they are is hair strands attached to those “snap” clips, and you just arrange them under the top layer of hair!

Those look great! I’ve been contemplating extensions myself… I have a friend who is competing for Miss Texas who showed me these. Her’s look very natural and were relatively inexpensive at Sally’s!

They look great! With a little blending and styling you are good to go. Extensions are a great idea for weddings. Clip ins or semi permanent.

Wow! They look great! I really can’t tell you’re wearing them- they just look like you have layers! I will also be wearing extensions for the big day- I bought the human hair wholesale at a wig store and then had a good friend sew the clips to it. My only complaint is that I get a mega bad headache from the extra weight…. *sigh* the things we do for beauty!

I do pageants and I also have very fine hair that doesn’t hold volume well at all and I use extensions to help me with that problem. And I love my extensions!!!! And yes when your hair is curly they blend in so well! Clip-in extensions are a great way to go, just make sure they match your hair color and are an appropriate length for you. Ask your hairstylist to help you out. Usually they will even highlight your extensions to match your natural hair/highlights.
