Miss Carousel's Picture
Miss Carousel, Dusseldorf, Germany/Garda, Italy Age and Occupation: 29, International Product Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Front End Developer Engagement Date: May 29, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: I’m an American-Italian girl living in Germany with my Belgian fiancé, planning a wedding in Italy. I can’t wait to show our guests the wonderful Lake Garda, Verona, and want our wedding to be a fun filled, charming, day in the life of “La dolce vita.” Mr. C and I love spending time together, and have added wedding related activities to our cooking nights, dance lessons, and road trips. We love sampling restaurants, could listen to Sinatra all day, and are just a tad geeky and into technology. As we want all of our passions to be part of our marriage, what better way to start than by incorporating them in our wedding day?
About Miss Carousel

In my previous post, I talked about how my fear of bad weather made me forgo a stunning, spectacular ceremony location. Still, I’m not sorry about it because I think the one we settled for is much more “us”—not to mention the fact that it does not give me any nightmares.

At the town of Torri del Benaco, in addition to the sweet but open-air lemon grove, they also offer their auditorium for wedding celebrations. Their auditorium is a 14th Century converted church.

When we visited it we fell in love with it: it’s a small, simple church with wooden beams on the ceiling and faded frescoes on the walls. It seats a maximum of 100 people and has wonderful lighting inside.

We felt that, even if we were having a civil ceremony, this church reflected us more as a couple than the other options—not to mention it’s in the next town over from Garda, so it’s very close to our reception location. Unfortunately, it was also more expensive (Why is this always the case?), but we decided it was worth the splurge.

Were you able to find a ceremony location that you felt fit you as a couple?

And honestly, do you think it’s weird that we decided to have our civil ceremony in a church?

I agree with Mrs. Trail Mix—this is certainly one of the most amazing ceremony spaces I’ve seen. Its breathtaking—actually my mouth is still wide open!

My fiance and I chose an open-air restaurant in Punta Cana for our ceremony (Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is my fave vacation spot). We will share a simple but amazing week with our closest loved ones–and it fits our personalities very well. We can’t wait :-)

That church is breathtaking. And, I must admit that I’m in love with the fact that there’s a lemon grove nearby. ;)

It looks beautiful, C! You should have your civil ceremony wherever you would like, and if that place is a church, so be it. I love the art on the wall!

If there were churches with that feeling around here, perhaps we would have considered what you chose. The history and atmosphere in the church must be amazing! Great pick!

@Mrs. Trail Mix: It’s true that it is next to impossible to find in the US churches and villas with the history and the charm like the ones in Europe - but on the other hand it’s frustrating that legal marriages cannot be performed everywhere, so the choice is limited!
@Tara318: That sounds lovely!
@Miss Tartlet: Yes they told us we will probably be able to take some pictures there after the ceremony if the weather is good! Fingers crossed!
