About Mrs. Candy Apple

Jet Set

April 4th, 2011 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Candy Apple

(Now that our save the dates are out and my brain is slowly re-forming from the mush-pile it was, we can get back to some regular posts. Who’s excited?!)

The other day, I had a revelation.

I was going through my usual lunch routine of stalking blogs, checking websites (yeah, Daily Puppy! Who’s with me?), etc. while munching on my salad and green beans. (What, does no one else spend their lunchtime doing that?) Nothing out of the ordinary. But, this time was different. Because I realized that one of my regular, everyday sites could be enormously useful in wedding planning! And by wedding planning, I mean honeymoon planning.

Intrigued? You should be.

Awhile ago, I joined a site called Gilt that offers designer products for lower prices. I’ve gotten Deborah Lippman nail polish through Gilt. I’ve gotten my Iittala dishware (which I am obsessed with) through Gilt. I got more Iittala dishware thorough Gilt. (I told you. It’s an obsession. I can’t stop.) I’ve gotten Citizens of Humanity jeans through Gilt. You get the idea. Anyway, yes, Gilt is awesome. They even had a wedding week at some point last year—dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, accessories, etc. Super cool. But, it’s Gilt’s travel site that I’m talking about.

Jetsetter. It even sounds swanky and fabulous.

Now, I have never actually used Jetsetter. We don’t have too much spare money at the moment (yay, student loans!), and oftentimes the hotels aren’t discounted enough for us to take advantage of the fares for random trips. But, I love checking the site to see what deals they have—looking at all of the gorgeous, tropical locales and all of the fun properties that would be perfect for weekend getaways. So, I check it daily just to see what’s new and if there are any insane deals.

And, I realized today that this would be the perfect tool for honeymoon planning! How did I not think of this before? Seriously, you can get some really great deals there as long as you’re constantly checking. I was trawling through the site and saw an amazing deal for a hotel in Thailand. AH-mazing deal. I almost booked it right there, but since we still haven’t decided when we can do a honeymoon, that would have been unwise. Just a little. But THAT’S how good the deal was! And it made me become slightly obsessed with going to Thailand. As you can tell, I become fixated on things.

On Jetsetter, you can find places like this:

French Polynesia? Yes, please. Over-water bungalows are the coolest.

And Colombia? Yes, please again. OK, maybe slightly unsafe. But this hotel room looks sweet; I’m totally digging the exposed brick.

You can also find great deals for nice hotels in NYC, Charlotte, Maine—closer locations if you don’t want to go too far for your honeymoon, or if you’re taking a minimoon.

Seriously, if you’re planning your honeymoon or thinking of planning your honeymoon in the near future, I suggest you sign up ASAP to get their deals emailed to you. They have new deals almost daily, so there are tons and tons of options! And if you’re not planning a honeymoon? Well, you should just sign up anyway.

Do you have any sweet honeymoon or travel finds? Any sites or resources that you had been using prior to planning that unexpectedly came in handy?

CA, you should check out HauteLook and RueLaLa too. I mean, I could also send you a handy referral link if you’re interested. I love shopping on these sites. :)

Aw I would be excited if I wasn’t just thrown on the waiting list. :P Any idea how long it takes to be accepted for Gilt?

I PROMISE Colombia isn’t as unsafe as you’d think - I spent my childhood summers there (I’m 28 now) and we’re going back in September. I highly recommend Cartagena, Cali, Medellin, and Bogota..

That being said - I wish Jetsetter was around when we planned last year! :)

I love Gilt and Jetsetter! I plan a different vacation every day! I also just signed up for Sniqueaway emails. It’s the same thing, but they’re purely dedicated to travel!

We bought 5 nights at a resort in Mexico on RueLaLa and LOVED it - and the price. Booking it was a little rough, I’m not sure the main reservation line was in the loop on the deal, but everything worked out perfectly once I got in touch with the property directly.

@Miss Lox: YES, I love RueLaLa! Although I don’t think they have as consistent travel deals as JetSetter? Maybe they do, and I’m just not savvy enough ;)

@Andie: Ha, I was just joshing about Colombia - it looks beautiful! :)

Thanks, everyone, for the other suggestions for various sites!! Awesome resources.

Gilt, Rue La La, Ideeli–I’ve had to amp up my willpower as of late to avoid spending money on these websites! They have *such* amazing deals! I found a great hotel room for my parents when they went on vacation recently through Jetsetter.

I’m a huge fan of these deal sites. I check Jetsetter regularly and two of my other favorites are SniqueAway and TripAlertz. If you like deals on trip packages (excursions, hotel, airfare or some combination) then Voyage Prive is another great one. I reviewed a bunch of these sites back when I was signing up for them (http://www.travelhyper.com/2011/01/exclusive-deals/)

Uhh, I totally booked one of my hotels for Thailand for the honeymoon off Jetsetter! It was cheaper than everywhere else online I looked…and a 5 star hotel to boot.

All of those destinations look dreamy! Too bad we’ve booked our h’moon already. It’s too tempting to look every day at the deals.

My husband and I check Daily Puppy every day. I also like Zooborns.com.

Thanks for the tip on Jetsetter. I’ll have to check it out!
