Bridal Style Troubles

April 4th, 2011 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Crepe

The first time I heard about fake lashes was from a friend who wore them to our senior prom. We all thought it looked strange in real life, but she insisted, “They look so good in photos.” And she was right. Our photos came back and whoa, totally glam.

So, I went to college and bought a pair to try, but couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to put them on correctly. They kept falling off my eyes, leaving streaks of glue. Finally, I threw them away and watched everyone else prance out the door with fabulously long lashes. I never tried to use them ever again. STUMPY LASHES 4EVER.

Fast forward to 2011. I am *sings* getting maaaaarrrried. The day of a thousand photos is fast approaching (we are at the 2 month mark, people) so I want to try this whole business again. A friend forwarded this video to me because I was being a big fat baby about this. I bought a pair of fake lashes in Nashville. We were having a meeting with a florist about my bouquet and then antiquing, so natch I thought it was time to take these babies out for a spin.

I had them on for about three hours before they got itchy. So, I tore one off while we were driving home.

The other one did not stay on long after that..

Oh my dear Mr. Crepe, you don’t even know what you’re getting yourself into. You don’t even know.

Okay, so 3 hours isn’t great. But I’m going to practice again and again, even if the only person I see all day is the UPS man (I work from home). And once I can get to 10 hours, you and me be gettin’ margaritas.

bhahahaha i love it! those photos are great! I am considering fake eyelashes, but I have never wore them at all - I had no idea that they would get itchy, maybe i should do some pre-wedding eyelash practicing!

at my makeup trial, the woman put “clump” eyelashes on rather than 1 long strip. You should try it - its feels so natural and much much better.

hehe, love the mustache! I’ve never put fake eyelashes on myself, I’ve bought them at the MAC counter and they put them on me. Maybe it helps to have a pro apply your lashes?

get eyelash extensions. they individually glue fake lashes to your real ones… and it lasts several weeks.

LOVE this post, good luck with the falsies! I should start practicing as well as I plan to wear them even though I’ve never actually tried them before!

I got fake eyelashes for my grad a couple years ago. They are quite pricey, but I would definately recommend them! Mine were put on individually so they weren’t in a strip. They lasted for about 2 weeks and just fell off as if they were my real lashes.

I am like you, I love the look of them but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to put them on comfortably.

OMG - Crepe, I am in tears from laughing over here. My co-workers are going to think I’ve completely lost my mind. And, I snort when I’m trying to muffle laughter. *chortles*

I can’t wear eyelash strips, either, because they make me tear up from how itchy/uncomfortable they are. However, my makeup artist had me try individual lashes and they were fantastic. Not a single problem, and I wore them from ~noon to bedtime.

As an actress, I’ve been putting on my own false lashes since I was about 12. A couple tricks: strip lashes are easier than individuals but individuals look more natural so practice on the cheaper strips for now. The cheap drugstore glue works great, I think it’s called Duo (?) and it comes in a tube or white or black. The white dries clear so it’s all I’ll use. First: get a strip and trim from the outside in (the longer side) until it fits your eye size. Manicure scissors work great. Then, apply a THIN line of glue and blow on it til it gets tacky. This is key because now they’ll stick instead of slide all over your face. Stick them on close to your lashline and let them mostly dry. I then like to take the side of my finger and place it at the base of my real lashes and push up. It’s like curling them without the scary metal thing. A coat of mascara glues everything together and you’re done! Hope this helps!

Did you make sure to cut the strip to the size of your own eye? Strips can be very difficult.

Go for individual lashes. They are three lashes joined at one end. Dab a bit of glue on the end and place (with tweezers) at the base of your lashes, on top or underneath, whichever you are most comfortable with.

They are much easier to use, look more natural and stay on for longer. Also, invest in some Duo lash glue (from Ulta or Sephora) it’s about $10 and much better than the glue which comes with the lashes.
