Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

Welcome to Maryland!

April 4th, 2011 @ 7:06 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Inspired by other brides here on Weddingbee, I created a few out of town boxes for our guests and absolutely love the way they turned out! I contemplated doing a Maryland-themed box, but many people assured me any box, whether themed or not, would be appreciated! This made this project a lot easier, and since I was working on it just two weeks before the wedding, easy made sense.

We don’t have hundreds of guests coming from out of town, thank goodness, but we have a few! Most of them are making a three-hour drive, and should appreciate a few snacks for the road. We have 30 boxes total and I want to give each of my bridesmaids one, as well as give them to some special vendors (did you include them? I figured they deserved some treats, too). I honestly don’t think anyone is expecting anything when they arrive to the hotel Saturday, so I hope they are impressed!

The Maryland theme wasn’t that important to us because Mr. B and I are both from Virginia. We just happen to be getting married in Maryland! What was important was incorporating our color theme and some of the things our guests will see later on at the wedding, like butterflies!

We also included a letter that thanked our guests for traveling to share our special day. Writing the letter was kind of difficult, though, to be honest. I actually looked up other letters online and that’s where I got most of the content (shh)! I found a really cute paragraph about how our memories of the day will not be of the music and food, but of the people who were there with us! Sweet, right? I think our guests will appreciate it even though we didn’t technically come up with that—our sentiment is the same!

Sorry this next picture is a little blurry! As you can see, there is a wide variety of snacks in each box! We included two bags of potato chips, trail mix, candy, mints, crackers, and some Easter candy as well! We really wanted to include these Rice Krispies Treats that had blank spaces on the front! Our idea was to write the guests’ name on them with a little message, but then we realized we’d have to label the boxes (not just the content in them), and coordinate with the Hotel Front Desk to make sure the correct box was delivered to the correct person. Does that sound easy? No way! So we ditched the Krispies Treats! Oh well.

I can’t wait to hear what our guests think of our boxes!

Did you make out of town boxes or bags? Did you do anything to make this project easier on yourself?

The boxes look wonderful!! They are the perfect size for some treats to hand out and small enough that people could take them on or pack them if flying by airplane.
I love the decorations on the boxes as well :)

We are creating “us” themed welcome bags for our destination wedding. The bags themselves I am going to do an iron-on of the Las Vegas Skyline. Then we are including such treats as coconut macademia mini bundt cake (I am Hawaiian), Keefeles (A polish cookie that is my fiance’s grandma’s reciepe), starbucks card (we had our first date there), Mickey Mouse sugar cookies (we are die hard Disney fans and Disneyland is first place we said I love you). Anyways you get the idea. BTW I think the bows look gorgeous.

We did these and added a bottle of water, Old Dominion Root Beer and a Beer - we’re in VA too. Plus snacks and tourism brochures from the tourism office where our ceremony is. What a project though and tres expensive! Yours look beautiful though!

I’d love to do OOT bags. Thinking that delegating this to one of the in-laws is a great idea to make it easier as crunch time approaches.
