DIY: Sip in Style

April 5th, 2011 @ 6:58 pm by Mrs. Brooch

As you know, there have been very few projects that I would say were “easy” or that turned out the way I anticipated and had hoped; however, these straw hearts by Andrea Gray Harper are so fabulous, and definitely one of my favorite DIY adventures! They were inexpensive, fun to create, and I’m pretty sure they’ll add a unique element to our cocktail hour!

I ordered those sought-after straws from Sugar Diva. They were pretty inexpensive. I also bought pink felt from my local craft store, and the felt was very inexpensive, too! I printed a heart from the computer (because I’m not capable of drawing a pretty one myself) and used it as a guide to cut the felt. Then, using a hot glue gun, I adhered the heart to the straw leaving enough room for people to still sip from it!

I didn’t make enough for every single guest, but I think I made enough for a few people to try it! I don’t think everyone will be into it; my brother thought it was candy, for instance, but the younger crowd will surely play along!

To avoid confusion, we also made a little heart sign to go along that says “Sip ’n Style!” Truly, the pictures just don’t do these little projects enough justice! They’re so much cuter in real life. :)

Wow! those are super cute and look so easy to make! Also the nice thing about them are you can change the image to the theme of your wedding. I love Cherry Blossoms and it would be sooooo cute to make a multi-colored petal.

Cute! I love the hearts.
If anyone’s colors include gray, blue or red, you can get striped paper straws in those colors for a better price at ModernLola.com ($6.25 for 144 instead of $21 for 150!): http://www.modernlola.com/shopDetails.asp?CatId=&SubCatId=11&ProductId=1565
I just got 432 blue and white paper straws in the mail and I’m in love with them!

So cute! For those with experience with paper straws - will they turn mushy if you tend to really nurse your drinks?

Any paper taste? I keep imagining pixi stix straws that get all mushy.
