Miss Carousel's Picture
Miss Carousel, Dusseldorf, Germany/Garda, Italy Age and Occupation: 29, International Product Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Front End Developer Engagement Date: May 29, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: I’m an American-Italian girl living in Germany with my Belgian fiancé, planning a wedding in Italy. I can’t wait to show our guests the wonderful Lake Garda, Verona, and want our wedding to be a fun filled, charming, day in the life of “La dolce vita.” Mr. C and I love spending time together, and have added wedding related activities to our cooking nights, dance lessons, and road trips. We love sampling restaurants, could listen to Sinatra all day, and are just a tad geeky and into technology. As we want all of our passions to be part of our marriage, what better way to start than by incorporating them in our wedding day?

Coincidences or Fate?

April 5th, 2011 @ 4:53 pm by Miss Carousel

Life is full of coincidences—mostly minor but sometimes remarkable. During the wedding planning process you might encounter some funny coincidences, which you could try to find meaning in and ascribe to “fate,” or just have a laugh about.

For example, a friend of mine is getting married on the eighth anniversary of first meeting her fiancé. The funny thing is, they were not aware of that when they booked the date: they only realized it later!

We have experienced this ourselves in a couple of occasions.

The first coincidence is the church we are getting married in (yes, it’s a civil ceremony in a church). The name of the church is “Chiesa di San Giovanni.” The Italian equivalent of Mr. Caro’s name is, if fact, Giovanni (my friends often call him that!). So, we’re basically going to get married in his church…

The second coincidence is the Hotel La Vittoria, which is the hotel in Garda where Mr. Caro and I will stay for the wedding. After booking our room I sent the link of the hotel to my mom so she’d know where we would be staying. She replied that this hotel is the same place where, almost thirty years ago, we had my baptism luncheon. I could not believe it—I didn’t even know we’d had my baptism celebrations in Garda, let alone in that same hotel!

What do you think, coincidence or fate? Have you experienced any remarkable coincidences in wedding planning?

I love things like this! I think that they are so cool and a little bit of fate, a little bit freaky coincidence.

It was meant to be! I’d like to think fate plays a little role in everything we do. :)

I just had to respond to this to share my string of coincidences with my fiance.

During our first conversation ever, we discovered my sister was attending the same university his dad used to work at as an admissions counselor. Upon further investigation, he revealed that for the first couple years of his life, he lived on campus with his parents in the same apartment my sister was currently in!

Keep in mind that FI grew up up north, and I grew up down south, and we were both no where near our childhood homes at the time!

Next, I met his parents and found out his dad grew up a street away from where I grew up. His old paper route goes by my childhood home! Next we compared more notes and found out his dad went to the same middle school as me, and the same high school as my father, at the same time as my father! They may have known each other!

Then, we found out his brother and I shared the same birthday of the same year. I am only a couple hours older!

I think that’s all for now, but it’s quite a lot, especially considering we met a considerable distance away from where most of these coincidences take place!

My family is from San Giovanni, Italy (in Calabria)! This has nothing to do with your post, I just found it interesting :).

That’s so cool! I’ve definitely had experience with coincidences guiding me in a certain direction for the wedding—with our church, as well.

YES!! Twice! I purchased my wedding dress and over the 7 months it took for the dress to arrive, I often wished I had purchased a more fitted silhouette. One month ago (two months from my wedding) I received my dress in the mail and discovered that the salon ordered the wrong dress. Turns out I love it more and am keeping it! And yes, it’s completed fitted. Fate, definitely!

Second “fate” instance is how I always dreamed of driving away in a vintage car with my hubby. I’ve had that vision forever. I live in a small town though and they’d have to ship a car from the nearest city and I’m not that crazy so I dropped the idea. A couple months ago, a family friend purchased a vintage Rolls Royce! He offered it to us and is even driving us - How awesome it that? :)

Wedding Fate - I love it! It makes the insane moments totally worth it.

@MissLily: That is totally incredible, the odds are so low it’s difficult to not read something more in that!
@Miss Biscuit: Cool! Have you ever been there?? Unfortunately I have not (in Calabria) but I’ve definitely enjoyed it’s produce (I love the mozzarella di bufala!!)
@idoitall: That is incredible!!! It does sound like fate!!!

I have a crazy one too.
Around Christmas of 2007, I found an old wedding ring among my recenently passed-away grandmothers things (they were the very last things that hadn’t already been “claimed” by my many cousins and sisters!): very simple and not noticeable. I checked for an inscription and found “Charles and Susie, December 25th, 1861″, so this was the wedding ring of my great-great-grandmother, and it fit me perfectly, so I claimed it! I wore it on a long chain that was my grandmother’s around my neck. One day, in 2008 (and this was very strange for me as I’ve never been a girl to dream about getting married) I looked at it and said aloud (w witnesses!) I am going to get married by 150 years of this date! (ie Christmas 2011). I had no boyfriend at the time! I remember a friend saying “you’d better hurry up, that’s around the corner!”
That July I met my future husband. About a year into our relationship we started talking about marriage. We both knew my mom had offered me her diamond to reset, but obviously we couldnt ask for it until we were already engaged. FH wondered how he would propose w/o a ring. I “lent” him my great-great-grandmother’s ring, saying he could propose with it whenever he felt ready, and we could design the real engagement ring after. And this is the freaky part:
Without ever having looked at the inscription, he proposed on December 25th! (same date as ring) in 2009. We are getting married this year, 2011, so my prediction came true!
Not to mention the fact that the ring is from 1861, the year of the Risorgimento AND we are getting married on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi!
