Jarritos!

April 5th, 2011 @ 1:11 pm by Mrs. Crepe

I posted earlier that I wanted to use fun drinks to use with our oh so cute stripe-y straws. A couple of Weddingbee-ers suggested that I look into Jarritos, a brand of sodas that I hadn’t ever heard of before. While I was in Nashville, I found them at a local supermarket and the cost was GOOD. If you buy a case, it ends up about 70 cents per bottle! We grabbed a couple to try first.

I loved the guava flavor and it came in one of our wedding colors…POINTS! Also, there wasn’t any corn syrup—more points. But that bottle’s not quite as cute as I wanted it to be (the green and orange is a little random for us), and it may just make sense to nix this plan and stick with the sweet teas and fruit juices we were planning on doing in glass beverage dispensers.

The mister and I are both on a “let’s be more aware of our diets” diet, which I realize isn’t REALLY a diet, but ideally it keeps us both more aware of what we put into our bodies. It’s all about changing habits in the long run, right? So we spaced out our soda drinking and split a bottle of strawberry soda while working outside.

It was pretty good, although I personally preferred guava. We haven’t tried a ton of sodas because, well, that would be really bad for our belly-pooch-ridding program, but this price is hard to beat.

We also tried a can of Izze, which neither of us had ever had either. I think I’ve found my new favorite soda: IZZE Sparkling Grapefruit! But it was also much more expensive. I love their branding though, even the can was adorbs.

I’m not sure we’re going to go that route, though. Now that things are winding down, cost is key. We really have to be watching ourselves with the extra expenses.

Stella’s keeping an eye on us too.

What do you think, hive? Is it worth having these extra drinks or should we just throw this idea out altogether?

I went multiple places to find an assortment of yellow drinks in glass bottles to use our cute stripey straws with! I ended up with a few different flavors of Izze and different varieties of soda with yellow labels that I picked up from various grocery stores around town. Look for the Izze that comes in the glass bottles. Super cute. I think it’s a great idea and completely worth it for people that aren’t interested in drinking alcohol.

I think if it’s within your budget and a detail that fits within your whole wedding vision, you should totally include it. I love cute striped straws in bottled sodas or cans. Maybe you can do the Izze soda, but on a smaller scale (buy less of it).

Mmm, I love Izze. I personally love the idea of the beverages in glass jars, but if you’re set on the bottle route, then go for it :)

if i remember correctly, jarritos recently went from semi-permanent labels to “wrapped in a plastic sleeve” labels, which (in theory) means that you could slice and remove the labels if that is your only beef with them. that may fall into “so not worth it,” but it’s a thought.

Mmmm, Jarritos. Both are cute ideas. I think if you can afford to work the extra drinks in…then it’d be worth it. However, it’s one of those details: if the guest have it, they’ll love it and remember it, but if they don’t? They’d be none the wiser.

I kind of seriously love the Jarritos! However, if it’s really not in the budget and it’s a hassle, it’s really no big deal to skip it and stick with the drinks you already have planned. The stripey straws will be fabulous either way! :)

Sparkling Grapefruit is my fave Izze flavor, too! If it works with your budget I say go for it. :) The sweet teas and fruit juices sound so yummy, too!

We’re doing old-fashioned Coca Cola bottles, Orange, Strawberry, and Grape Crush in glass bottles, and some other drinks in re-purposed wine bottles. Makes for a cute setup.

Have you tried Jones Soda? They have ALL different kinds of flavors and colors. You could definitely find something that will work for you, with them.

If you can do it, then go for it! At my wedding we have an open bar and we will have a “signature drink”, I’m thinking pink lemonade (alcohol and non) and everyone can grab a stripey straw for their drink!

I’ve never seen the cans of Izze’s but I drink the bottled “Clementine” one almost every day cuz they sell them at the Whole Foods right next to my work and it’s my most favorite thing ever!!

I’m not sure how common Save-A-Lot grocery stores are in other areas….but they regularly have jarritos, as well as some other brands of similarly packaged Mexican soda for even cheaper - plus if you sign up for the email club on the website, you get a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase. So that might help your budget - plus if you can talk to a manager, it never hurts to ask for a discount if you’re buying several cases :)
Adorable idea & if you can make it fit in your budget, I’m sure guests will love it!
@Miss Wine-o: I know it would add cost, but jones soda will even let you send them a picture and then they customize your soda bottles specifically for this type of thing :)

I think if you aren’t absolutely in love with them, and if you have to stretch the budget then it is okay to leave them out. Your other option could be to DIY a label to go over the Jarritos label. Maybe something cute with the Crepes’ mugs on it? I know of folks that have DIY’d the Jones soda label rather than purchasing the more expensive personalized soda from Jones.

I love the idea! It’s always hard to cough up unplanned cash though.
