One of the largest things left on my wedding ‘to-do’ list has been sorting out wedding day transportation. Researching this has been ongoing, and very time consuming. I don’t know about cars for hire in your local area, but in the Sydney region? They are insanely expensive. Like, eyeballs-popping-out-of-head expensive.
You see, at first I wanted to hire classic cars. I’ve been to a few weddings where I’ve seen two-toned cars (like my namesake, the Jaguar Mark V) as bridal cars, and I’ve been coveting them ever since. But after getting quotes from practically every vendor in my local area, the average has been around $1200-$1500 to hire two vehicles for 3.5 hours.
Say WHAT? That’s half of our photography budget for a few measly hours—and the bridal party will really be the only ones up close and personal with the cars. I decided to try out a different approach and see what other vehicles were available for hire.
Our next option: a classic limousine, like this Chrysler Stretch. It’d fit the whole bridal party in it, so only one car, but the downside? It’s the go-to car for school formals and parties, and still costs a pretty penny. The quote for this baby for 4 hours? $1000.
While I was still scratching my head and trying to figure out how to get us around on the day, I should tell you that we at least have Mr. Jaguar and the groomsman covered for the morning. They’ll be heading to the church in Papa Jaguar’s very own Mustang Convertible—unless it’s raining, the roof will definitely be down! If I wasn’t so paranoid about my hair being wrecked, I totally would’ve stolen this option for myself.
Here she is, shown at a local auto-show.

But we’re still down cars for the girls!
Well, Papa Jaguar jumped in to the rescue here too and asked around for cheaper wedding car options, and we found some. We’ll be forgoing the gorgeous old vintage cars in favour of more sleek, modern cars: two BMW 5-series. They’re classic sedans, will include ribbons and drivers, and will be ours for as long as we need them. PLUS, one of them will come back at the end of our reception to whisk us away to our hotel for the evening. The price for both was less than half of our other options, which made me happy. And, let’s face it: whack some wedding ribbons onto ANY car, and you’ve got yourself a winner.

Our ‘loose’ plan for the day goes something like this:
- Mr. Jaguar and the boys cruise to the church in the ‘stang.
- Papa Jaguar and I will get to the church in BMW 1
- The three bridesmaids and Mama Jaguar will get to the church in BMW 2
- Mama and Papa Jaguar will drive the Mustang around to photos and eventually to reception hall, where it will become their wheels for the night.
- The Jaguars (+ their 5/6 bridal party members) will take over the two BMWs for the duration of the pictures, until we get dropped off to the reception.
Phew! Cars are tricky, you guys. And we still haven’t worked out the logistics of how we’re all getting to the hotel to get ready or home from the venue; there’s so much more to do. I see lots of crazy scribbles and diagrams in our near future.
