Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

One of the largest things left on my wedding ‘to-do’ list has been sorting out wedding day transportation. Researching this has been ongoing, and very time consuming. I don’t know about cars for hire in your local area, but in the Sydney region? They are insanely expensive. Like, eyeballs-popping-out-of-head expensive.

You see, at first I wanted to hire classic cars. I’ve been to a few weddings where I’ve seen two-toned cars (like my namesake, the Jaguar Mark V) as bridal cars, and I’ve been coveting them ever since. But after getting quotes from practically every vendor in my local area, the average has been around $1200-$1500 to hire two vehicles for 3.5 hours.

Say WHAT? That’s half of our photography budget for a few measly hours—and the bridal party will really be the only ones up close and personal with the cars. I decided to try out a different approach and see what other vehicles were available for hire.

Our next option: a classic limousine, like this Chrysler Stretch. It’d fit the whole bridal party in it, so only one car, but the downside? It’s the go-to car for school formals and parties, and still costs a pretty penny. The quote for this baby for 4 hours? $1000.

While I was still scratching my head and trying to figure out how to get us around on the day, I should tell you that we at least have Mr. Jaguar and the groomsman covered for the morning. They’ll be heading to the church in Papa Jaguar’s very own Mustang Convertible—unless it’s raining, the roof will definitely be down! If I wasn’t so paranoid about my hair being wrecked, I totally would’ve stolen this option for myself. ;) Here she is, shown at a local auto-show.

But we’re still down cars for the girls!

Well, Papa Jaguar jumped in to the rescue here too and asked around for cheaper wedding car options, and we found some. We’ll be forgoing the gorgeous old vintage cars in favour of more sleek, modern cars: two BMW 5-series. They’re classic sedans, will include ribbons and drivers, and will be ours for as long as we need them. PLUS, one of them will come back at the end of our reception to whisk us away to our hotel for the evening. The price for both was less than half of our other options, which made me happy. And, let’s face it: whack some wedding ribbons onto ANY car, and you’ve got yourself a winner.

Our ‘loose’ plan for the day goes something like this:

  • Mr. Jaguar and the boys cruise to the church in the ‘stang.
  • Papa Jaguar and I will get to the church in BMW 1
  • The three bridesmaids and Mama Jaguar will get to the church in BMW 2
  • Mama and Papa Jaguar will drive the Mustang around to photos and eventually to reception hall, where it will become their wheels for the night.
  • The Jaguars (+ their 5/6 bridal party members) will take over the two BMWs for the duration of the pictures, until we get dropped off to the reception.

Phew! Cars are tricky, you guys. And we still haven’t worked out the logistics of how we’re all getting to the hotel to get ready or home from the venue; there’s so much more to do. I see lots of crazy scribbles and diagrams in our near future.

Did transportation give you grief on your wedding day? How did you get from A to B?

I definitely feel you on wanting to save money on transport. Although a great limo driver can be a wonderful addition, they are SO expensive.

I chose a venue that I could have the ceremony and reception at in the same place just so I wouldn’t have to try and sort out transportation. XD

we’re having a destination wedding (well, except for my parents) to hawaii, and our wedding site is 45 minutes away from waikiki! so we’re going to rent buses to get everyone to and from the wedding, as i doubt many will rent cars and even then… i’m sure they’ll partake in the drinking ;) but… yikes!

we’re just going to rent vans for the bridal party i think hahaha!

I love classic cars too but just can’t spend that much on transportation either. Our ceremony and reception are in the same spot but we are getting ready at the hotel so we are just going to get a car from the hotel to the venue. We will take our own cars back. I think it is crazy to pay a limo guy for 5 hours of just sitting in his car!

Wedding and reception in the same place. I’ll be driving myself and getting dressed there. Hooray for cheap!

Oh my goodness, I totally feel your pain. Why are vintage cars so expensive?! Ahhhh. We’ve thankfully found a resolution and glad to see you have too! I’m sure you’ll figure out all the other transportation with ease, you’re a savvy lady!

I think those two options are just as great as riding in the vintage cars because spending all that money for them to basically sit outside isn’t really worth it.

Looking at those logistics makes my head hurt Jaguar! But I’m glad you got it sorted out. :)

I feel you - sedans, limos, busses all are crazy expensive where I’m at and it was a real mess trying to get everyone to and from the wedding site - even though everything is in one place… just to / from the hotel was crazy…

LOL @ whacking wedding ribbons onto cars. So true. :) I love the cars you chose though–they’re going to look so slick!

Our transportation was $1000 for 4 hours (the minimum) and I thought that was pretty reasonable. We rented a trolley to cart the entire wedding party and our parents around town to take photos before the wedding. It was fun! We did a first look around 1pm and had the trolley take us to a pretty park for all of our formal photos, and then drop us off at the venue. So we didn’t need separate transportation for the boys and girls.

Love those cars :) Cars were quite important to me in our wedding and it was sooooo hard to find them. I got a quote for $1000 for 2 hours from a limo company- I almost choked!

@heather25: I know, I was really shocked to find out just how expensive cars were! :)

@dreamocracy: Looking back, I sort of wish we’d done that now - the thing is, the venue for our ceremony and our reception is literally only 10 minutes from one another, which is why I felt bad about spending so much money on cars that weren’t really all that necessary, you know?

@Ms. Sparkles: It’s not hard if you have unlimited funds. Oh, the fun we could’ve had with vintage cars! ;) Good luck!

@flurrsprite: Nothing wrong with that! I was THIS close to hiring a school bus for everyone. ;)

@xtatic1: Seriously! Ours would’ve been driving all of like, 10 minutes to a photo spot and then 10 minutes to the venue - the rest is sitting around. Easy money!

@redheadartgirl: Huzzah for smart thinking! :D

@Miss Seal: Thanks, Miss S! (Have I mentioned how happy I am to see you blogging with that adorbs icon?)

@mrsbowieii: You’re so right! That’s the way I see it, anyway.

@Miss Lox: I know. Having to throw stuff into the ‘we just can’t afford it’ category is kinda crappy, but eh!

@KMA: Seriously - it shouldn’t be this difficult! ;)

@nicoliolihpf: Welcome to Australia, where wedding goods are fifty times more pricey than everywhere else in the world!

@Miss Tartlet: Is it bad that that’s the part I’m MOST excited for about the cars. WEDDING RIBBONZ omg!
