Shoe Shopping with Mr Waffle

April 5th, 2011 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Waffle

It has been discussed before that shopping with Mr Waffle is a difficult experience. He is a super-duper-picky-pants about everything. We needed to get him new black dress shoes for our wedding and our friends’ wedding, where he’ll be a groomsman later this month.

He had been digging his heels in on this one for a long time now. He has a nice pair of black shoes, but they are by no means dress shoes. I showed them to my friend when they were over at our house and she told him that they were not an acceptable substitution. I thanked her profusely.

So, yesterday, along with ring shopping and meeting with our DJ for the first time, we went shoe shopping.

Mr Waffle moped over to the men’s section and I followed (desperately trying to not be tempted to venture into the aisle of high heeled bliss). The look of disgust on his face frightened me. As we walked along the back wall covered in dress shoes I heard, over and over, the following phrases…

“Too dad-like.”

“Too much like school shoes.”

“Too pointy.”

Too square.”

“Too European.”

Ugh. We paced up and down the aisle 3 or 4 times before finally landing on something that was semi acceptable. He tried them on.

Now, dress shoes are a bit slick on the bottom when you first wear them and when Waffle first stood up it was much like Bambi walking on ice. He slipped and slid around for a while and then, upon discovering he could slide around, proceeded to “ice skate” up and down the aisle at DSW. A grown man, who is never silly in public was gliding through the store with a big grin like a toddler.

I was confused and highly amused at the same time. I laughed soooo hard I almost wet my pants…especially when he got excited over the fact that these slippery shoes were awesome for Moonwalking.

Thank goodness we found shoes he likes!

Did you have a struggle getting your mister to wear dress shoes?

Hahaha!! I love this. Mr CA is actually more fashionable than I am, sadly, and has nicer shoes than I do. Damn him. I guess lawyers *do* have to wear nice shoes, though.

Hehe! Mr. E isn’t a picky shoe person but hates to shop so it’s always interesting when it’s shoe shopping time.

My Husband decided that he needed new dress shoes on our wedding day.

That’s right, at 12 noon, just three hours before our Ceremony he was in town buying himself a new pair of shoes.

Your drawing made me giggle. :) Too funny! No troubles getting Mr. Tartlet to wear dress shoes, but he’s still incredibly picky about the ones he does wear! Glad you found a pair!

Haha! Luckily, Mr. Biscuit is pretty excited about wearing dress shoes, and is picky about them (like Mr. Tartlet!).

Mr. S is picky about EVERYTHING when it comes to clothes. Mr. Waffle’s reasons for not liking the different pairs of shoes very well could have been Mr. Seals—it can be veeeerrry frustrating! He likes dressing snazzy…he’s just super picky. Glad Waffleman found a pair he liked so much ;)

Hahaha mine has a problem with getting new shoes. He had a pair that he absolutely loved, and wore them until there were pretty sizable holes in the bottom. It took me almost four months to finally drag him to the store to get a new pair! so sillly!

My FI was exactly like that when we shopped for his wedding shoes! We eventually found something he liked, though.

lol I loved the lovely picture it really made me giggle thinking of your SO sliding and then moon walking in the store lol
I have to say I have not had the fortunate experience yet of clothes shopping with my SO, due to us living long distance right now. BUT… If this tells me and you anything.. I have found a few holes in his *cough* boxers and have mentioned a few times about he needs to find new ones! Well.. the holey ones are still there *sigh*
I have a feeling my guy is the type you need to drag shopping or just buy yourself lol which might be easier lol :)

Lol that must have been funny!! Mr. Caro says that he has a certain amount of shopping calories: once those are over he can’t get out of a shop fast enough! If we’re shopping for me, he’ll probably have calories for 1-2 hours. If for me, tops for an hour. While window shopping can be prolonged to 2-3 hours….

Hilarious!
Just make sure he takes the label off the bottom.. I’ve seen that in a ceremony before - groom kneeling at the altar allowing us to sniff the price tag.
