Thoughts on Invites and Colour : wedding calgary color schemes invitations stationery 5560554 InviteSuite08

I love our invite suite. I love the style, the design, the colours. We kept it low-stress by not worrying about whether the colours of things were going to match exactly. We bought the envelopes and made the belly bands before we received the printed product, so we didn’t have anything to carry around with us to the stationery store—we just went and eyeballed the various blue and green options, and picked our favourites. The belly bands we made with blue spray I had hanging around (OK, I bought it for wedding purposes, but hadn’t decided where to use it yet!).

Do things match perfectly? No.

Do we care? No.

Do we think it looks bad? No.

I think this is a fairly big theme of our wedding—people ask what our colours are, and I say, “teal and apple green!” But I am not concerned with everything being the same apple green or the same teal. They’re all close enough, or go together enough that I think we’re fine. I love all the colours, all the shades of blue and green in our invites. Cinnamon Buns is wearing a teal shirt, and the bridesmaids will be wearing teal dresses—not quite the same teal, but pretty darn close! Are our green napkins the same apple green as the groomsmen’s shirts? Or the envelopes? No, but close enough!

How important is exact colour match to you?

I am so glad to hear I am not the only one who isn’t obsessing over exact matching. It takes way to much energy for me to match the red of our envelopes to the red BM dresses. And aqua….there are just WAY too many shades to get it perfect.

I’m right there with you! At first I was trying to match the shades of blue and green, but gave that up pretty fast. As long as they go, it’s all good.

I struggle with color. My mother was a Type-A, retentive control *a’hem* freak and alas, I have inherited many of her qualities!! It’ll take my entire lifetime to shake these bad habits but I’m truly working on it!

I think the invitation suites you have made are gorgeous! What a fun scheme to plan around very cheery!! (and I love teal) In fact, because of some you crafty Bees, I have changed our invitation style because if y’all can do it, I can certainly give it a try.

I have loosely based our color scheme around ‘neutrals and greens’ in hopes of letting go of some of my retentiveness; knowing that no, every single item incorporated into our day does not have to come from the exact same dye lot. (I can let go, I can let go, I CAN..!)

I love your invitations! You did a great job on them. I still need to make mine. I’m sure it will be a long process! I’m with you with not having to match everything exactly! If I did that I would either have to pay some much more for my decor or not have enough decorations…so I decided to have a close match instead of exactly!

I’m a professional designer who deals with color matching every day, so i always found myself looking WAY too closely at whether color matched or not when I was planning my wedding. But that was just from force of habit, i agree with you that things don’t have to match perfectly to still go together! your invitation suite is so cute and works well with the different shades of green and teal. i love it!

I don’t care about exact matches of our colors, but surprisingly FI really cares about it. He’s even talked about getting the exact HEX codes for colors we want to use so that all our paper products will have the exact same shades. I think it’s overkill, but whatever, if it makes him happy! :-p

Amen to that! Our stuff is going to be all different shades of pink. No more worrying about just one shade.

When I’m designing, it matters, but I have found that when it comes to my wedding I’ve been super laid back about it. Other people (our mothers) seem way more concerned than need be.

I like your attitude!
When people ask my colors I say “dark red and white” and people always want to see EXACTLY what kind of dark red. XD Really, an artist cannot pick just one shade or hue! I hope to see lots of different colors of dark red at my wedding. :)

P.S. Gorgeous invites and nice handwriting on the envelopes!

Totally with you. Our invites are light green, light aqua, and silver. My dress has accents of teal. Oh well! Same color family, and I am not going to be spending a lot of time holding my invites up to my silk piping to ascertain their exact Pantone shades.

I gave up on exact matching a long time ago. ;) Now we take a more watercolor approach with stuff sort of blending together in various shades of the same color!

I’m definitely on board with you about not matching exactly. That’s one of the reasons I’m having my bridesmaids in mis-matching dresses of the same shade.

Since I have to look at a ton of different shades of white every day and choose the best match, I’m used to colors not matching driving me NUTS. I’m trying to let it go for the wedding though. Really :).

There are no real exact color matches in our wedding. The only time we used exact colors was when a vendor custom making something for us needed direction. Other than that, it’s what we have or what we picked up without regard to exactly this or that. And I love it this way! :)

So cute! Love your suite. Meh to color matching, I’ve got about 10 shades of pink in mine already. :)
