Errr. Why, yes. Flowers are my favorite part of any and all weddings. Isn’t that the case for everyone? No? OK, then. Don’t judge.
Seriously, I have always loved flowers. And foliage. And gardening. And any sort of shrubbery. And when you combine those things with dreamy weddings, beautiful light, and amazing photography? Well. I just might pee my pants a little bit.

I could spend all day looking at beautiful floral arrangements. To be honest, I did this before I got engaged. Why, you ask? Well, because I am slightly insane. And, as I have said, I love florals. LOVE. I am so impressed by people who can just take bits and bobs of random flowers and leaves and twigs and acorns, and create gorgeous, natural arrangements out of them. It makes me want to just romp around in beautiful blooms all day.

I knew starting the wedding-planning process that I didn’t want your standard bouquet of roses and stephanotis. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Many women have had beautiful weddings with those florals. It’s just not me. I am earthy. And feminine. And natural. And I demand the same from my wedding florals.
I had originally hoped to go with something mossy and woodsy. And then I fell in love with succulents. They are spiky and cool and hip. And I am obviously the most indecisive person ever, so there was much wavering on my part regarding the flora at our wedding. I hemmed and hawed. But, eventually I realized that I need to focus on what I love—dreamy flowers. Beautiful, amazing flowers. Moss and succulents are perfect and wonderful for some weddings but, for our wedding, neither would really fit the mood or the theme. So that was that.

Of course, wedding planning has subsequently forced me to spend hours on wedding blogs and sites, drooling over gorgeous dahlias, anemones, cabbage roses, clematis, lavender, poppies, and peonies. It’s tough, but someone has to do it.

I am really digging the funkier, out-of-the-box arrangements and florals of recent weddings. I love it when florists utilize fun, unexpected, and natural elements—vegetables, grasses, nuts, foliage of all kinds. I also love the more unstructured, asymmetrical arrangements. My keyboard should probably be cleaned from all the drooling. And tomatoes? Genius. Food AND decor. Works for me!

Because who wouldn’t want an apple tree and blooms as their centerpiece?! This centerpiece seriously blows my mind. The shape. The itty bitty pears. The floppy blossoms.
And can we please discuss my love of clematis? Yes. More people should use clematis in their weddings.

But, I don’t think anything could come close to my manic obsession with poppies. Seriously. I cannot get enough of them. The papery petals. The beautiful, light hues. I die. This looks like a watercolor painting.

I seriously die. It makes me want to quit my job and just grow and arrange flowers. All. the. time.
Also, please don’t tell anyone because I’m kind of embarrassed: I used to hate dahlias. I thought they were boring. I know—the madness! I have absolutely no idea why! Temporary insanity. Because how could I NOT love them?! So creamy and flowy. Please stop screaming at me now.

And who doesn’t love ranunculus? Yeah, that’s right. No one. Because they’re amazing.

When I am old and grizzled, instead of a crazy cat lady, I will be a crazy flower lady, with millions of plants and flowers and fruit trees taking over my house and yard. One can only dream.

OK, I will stop posting pictures because this is getting slightly out of control. (I can’t stop. It’s an addiction.) Clearly, flowers are important to my wedding scheming. And hopefully you now have a sense of my (impeccable) floral style.
Do flowers make you go slightly crazy, too? What sorts of flora are you drawn to—the more traditional arrangements or the funkier styles? Do you share my obsession with poppies?? (Please tell me I am not alone in this.)
