Too Late to Turn Back Now

April 6th, 2011 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Elephant

It’s getting real, you guys!!!

Too Late to Turn Back Now : wedding dallas legal Dsc06341 DSC0634

Mr. E had to renew his car registration, so we went ahead and applied for our marriage license since they are in the same building. One quick form, our driver’s licenses, and $67 later, and we’re ready to get married!! I joked with Mr. E when we were walking out that it was too late to turn back now. He replied that he still had 17 days. ;)

Great minds must think alike because when I sent this picture to Mama E, she started singing the words to that song from Cornelius Bros and Sister Rose.

How soon before your wedding were you able to apply for your marriage license?

We could have done it 6 months in advance legally, but we did it last month, so 3 months in advance. :) So exciting!

We also could have done it 6 months in advance. But we did it about 2 months in advance instead.

Elefante! Yay! That’s SO exciting :) Congrats. Also, thanks for the music share—I’m rockin’ out to it now.

In Ontario (or at least my city) you can apply for it 90 days before the wedding date. Ours is much more expensive too.. $130.00!

In Houston you can only do it 30 days in advance AND you can’t marry until 72 days after getting it. Bummer. However, I’m so excited that your day is nearly here. I’ve been following all your DIY and helpful hints. I can’t wait, absolutely cannot wait for everything to come together. Congrats Ms. E :)

@dreamocracy: @Miss Lox: @asfoura: It’s so interesting to hear the time frame of other states and countries. Like@bRooklynRocks: in Texas it’s only good for 30 days with the 72 hour waiting period.

Also @asfoura: Ours could have been even cheaper if we had taken a marriage prep course in Texas (we did ours with our pastor instead). I think it would have been $60 off if we took the class.

@asfoura: I was just thinking the same thing! Why is everything always so much more expensive here…

That 30 day, 72-hour waiting period was such a pain for us since we were out of towners getting married in Texas. We flew in on Wednesday before the wedding and had to go STRAIGHT to the county office to get our marriage license in order to meet the 72 hour requirement. It all worked out though!!!

I have no idea about the time frame for the document in Puerto Rico. I figured you can get it as soon as you want, but since it is not really valid until the lab tests results are certified by a doctor, and those results are only valid for ten days, then I guess you really only have ten days before the wedding to get it. Someone should have told me that those lab tests cost $120! Plus the $20 for the license. So, yesterday I went and got the thing, so that we could go to the lab just when that time arrived, which was today, so yay! Ten days and counting. The clock is surely ticking for us Ms. E. Congrats!
