Awesome Birthday Present!

April 7th, 2011 @ 3:30 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

So, Saturday was my birthday (same as Mrs. Lioness’ wedding day; it was a great day!). We woke up to half a foot of snow dumped on the city, which was unpleasant to say the least. We’d arranged to meet Cinnamon Buns’ mum and step dad at a diner near our house for birthday brunch, as both Cinnamon Buns and I had full work days starting at 12:30PM.

As brunch was over, we walked back to our house and in the lobby of the building we bumped into some ex-coworkers of mine! I’d temped with them for 2 months a couple summers ago, and one of them, K, moved into my building a few months later. We don’t really see each other very often, but every now and then in the parkade we wave hi to each other. It turns out that that morning K had enlisted the help of the other coworker to bring some stuff to the city dump, including this beauty that they were struggling to get out the door when we came in:

They jokingly offered it as a present, as it was just being thrown away, and said “Really? The dump? You’re serious?”

K just didn’t have room for it anymore, but our other coworker had been trying to convince her not to throw it out. When I saw she was serious about getting rid of it, I said, “sure, call it a birthday present!” It is in great condition and is pretty much the right shade of green to match our wedding! One hinge needs some new screws, and that’s about it.

I drool over weddings with arrangements of vintage furniture:

I have wanted that look for my wedding but there are no companies here that rent that stuff; plus I want to find this kind of stuff myself! (And don’t get me started on my vintage rental business plan, I’ll talk your ear off!) The trunk is even pretty inside, and still has its tray:

There are some coffee stains on the front and top, but once we wipe those off and re-screw the hinge we’re golden. I’m not sure what we’ll use it for, or if it will just be pretty. I like pretty.

Are you a fan of the vintage-wedding-furniture-arrangement movement?

I’m a huge fan of the movement, and I can’t believe they were going to throw that trunk out! It’s such a great piece, and could be used for home decor after the wedding! Happy belated birthday. :)

Wow, that’s great! They were seriously just going to throw it away?? I’m sure you’ll be able to find some creative use for it for the wedding.

I LOVE the trunk. You can use it afterward in your home, something I’m a huge fan of.
