Assembling the OOT Boxes

April 7th, 2011 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Elephant

Tick, tick, tick…

What’s that I hear? Is that our countdown clock nearing two weeks?

Thanks to Daddy and Mama Elephant, we knocked out the out of town boxes that will welcome our guests to Dallas. Mr. E and I did all of the bulk shopping at Costco, then I headed up to my parents’ to put them together (and store them, since we have no room left in our apartment) while he was recovering from his bachelor party.

I started the assembly line by wrapping the boxes in the Washi tape and using spray adhesive to attach the welcome sign.

Daddy E was very meticulous about making sure every box had the right amount of snacks, which Mom would then pack up.

Each box contained:

  • 2 bottles of water with our DIY labels
  • chips
  • pretzels
  • 100 calorie snack pack
  • 2 bags of fruit snacks
  • 3 pieces of chocolates
  • pack of gum
  • peanut butter crackers
  • 2 travel packs of Advil
  • welcome note (printed by Vistaprint)

Once all 35 boxes were packaged up and tied with a little ribbon, we boxed them up for transport to the hotels the week of the wedding. Of course, nothing is really done without final inspection by Gypsy.

What are your favorite types of snacks? Are you more of a sweet or salty snacker?

I am so obsessed with OOT bag/baskets/boxes. Yours turned out great! Your guests are really gonna love you, Miss E! I am both a sweet and salty snacker. I can rarely have one without the other—it’s terrible!

Amazing! Your guests will be thrilled! The boxes are such a different and greart idea. I love how your puppy was the final quality control checker ;)

Do you mind sharing which specific Vistaprint product you used? I’m looking for the same shape/size to have our ceremony programs printed. Thanks! :)

Amazing!! I like to snack on fresh fruit but that is a recipe for disaster if you stuck an apple in there two weeks before they are intended to be eaten. Gross!

I have the same size OOT boxes - what size large box did you get to pack them in? I need to do that… they’re driving me nuts thinking about transporting them…

Hmmm…, I am always so impressed with stuff you come up with. If I were doing my shinding in NYC, I might be tempted to do this, now…hmm…it looks so beautiful though :)

Super cute. I am totally going to steal your washi tape idea. I really wanted to do tote bags, but at $10 a pop they are way out of budget. So now I am going to do Washi tape and Welcome to Vegas tag. How did you tape them? Did you use a different peice of tape for each side or one long piece?

@MissMaine: They look like the rack cards from VP. They have links for free ones all over the place.

@ocdbride2be: It’s a little difficult to breakdown since we bought all of the items in bulk at Costco (like the bag of chocolates was 13.99 for 150 pieces and we only used 105 pieces). Mr. E purchased the water on sale at CVS (we were going for the blue lids), and my mom supplied the Advil.

I tried to do a break down based on the amounts per unit and it came out to roughly $2.09 not including the water or the Advil. The boxes were purchased from another local bride and I spent $40 on 75 boxes, so I’ll be selling the ones that we didn’t use. The welcome letter were rack cards from Vistaprint and I only paid for shipping.

Hope that helps a little!

@JackieDe: hehe, he was so excited to help. It has taken some time for me to “let” others help, but being able to include my parents in these projects has been a great time for all of us!

@MissMaine: Thanks! It was the rack cards. They have a great thickness to them. If you PM me I can send you the link that I used to get them for free (just pay shipping)

@R.Elliott: LOL that would be!

@KMA: We actually ended up using Bed Bath & Beyond boxes that have been shipped to our apartment with wedding gifts. A great way to reuse!

@Mrs. Trail Mix: Mr. E LOVES those fruit snacks so he was all over the left overs!

@HaveGroomWillTravel: @kjr: I think the boxes were originally from Uline, but I purchased them from another bride who had left overs. The labels were made by me, and the Washi tape was purchased from happytape.

@Kcoleybear: I did one continuous strip of tape for each box, or 2 for the thinner blue tape.

@organicgal: That stuff is awesome and such a quick and easy way to dress something up!
