I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). About Mrs. Candy Apple

I am really not a shoe person, at least not in the way that so many other girls are.

Sure, I would kill for a sweet pair of Christian Louboutins. Who wouldn’t? Seriously. How can you resist these? Black glitter shoes are my favorite. Actually, any glitter shoes are my favorite.

These (Shoes) Are Made For Walkin' : wedding seattle shoes Candyapple1 candyapple1

{Christian Louboutin. Drool.}

I digress. Anyway, I really don’t own that many pairs of shoes, comparatively. (Did you know that some people have entire closets of shoes? If that is you, I am totally jealous.) I have some kitten-heel shoes for work, a few pairs of flats and boots (including my cowboy boots, which I am obsessed with), workout shoes. One or two pairs of heels. But really? I just like spending my money on things other than super-expensive shoes that will just get worn out in a year.

So, it’s been tricky for me finding shoes that I want to wear at our wedding. Particularly because I am a little bit scared of heels. What?? I’m tall! I have weak ankles! I have a long way to fall if my weak ankles give out on me. Don’t get me wrong—I do want, and am going, to wear heels for my wedding. If it kills me. OK, OK, maybe just for the ceremony. But for the reception? I’m thinking that I need to change into something more…appropriate. Let’s be honest. Since I never wear heels, I will probably die if I try to wear heels for nine-plus hours on my wedding day. Especially since I will be on my feet a lot of the time. And trying to dance in tall heels? Yeah. Not happening. Blisters and raw skin on my feet the day after the wedding do not sound appealing.

Thus begins my quest for the perfect wedding-reception flats. I don’t want anything too plain, but I definitely want them to be comfortable and fun. Granted, people probably won’t be able to see them, but they still must be cute. It’s just a requirement. Don’t question it.

At first, I considered jumping on the Toms bandwagon. They’re flats. They’re breathable. They’re en vogue right now. And, for each pair of Toms you purchase, Toms will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. Win win win, right?

{Shoes by Toms/ Image by A Little Bit of Whimsy Photography / Via Eco-Beautiful Weddings}

But, they’re just too informal for the look I am going for. I would feel a little bit weird wearing them at the reception, mainly because I don’t wear this type of shoe on a day-to-day basis. So, it would just seem out of place. They’re not “me.”

So I turned to my old, trusty stand by: J.Crew. They have tons of cute flats! And I love Liberty prints (someone please buy me a million yards of that stuff), so I definitely was drawn to these shoes.

{J.Crew}

But, they’re just a little…blah. Nothing special. They just don’t really scream “wedding,” or even “special event.” I would love to wear them with little gray skinny jeans, though! (Also, J.Crew flats give me toe cleavage, which Mr. Candy Apple hates. Why do I have to have such long toes?!)

Since I clearly know what I’m doing, I did an online search for “wedding blog” and “flats.” Yes. I am awesome. It didn’t really turn up much (obviously), but after some trawling around, I came across this loveliness.

I think they’re from Steve Madden. So that means they are the right price! And, we all know how much I adore eyelet. But, again, they’re just a bit plain for me. (I’m too picky.)

And then. Then, I found these beauties. I mean, come on. Sparkles? A bow? Charcoal gray? I might be a little obsessed with how the square toe makes it look like a ballet shoe. Maybe. Love, love, love. I am just not sure how well they would go with everything. Kate Spade is pretty pricey, too, so I’m not sure I would want to spend that much on flats. Although, let’s be honest, I would wear these all the time with jeans after the wedding.

{Kate Spade}

And…that’s where I have gotten at this point—nowhere. Sigh. I need a personal stylist. I guess there are always ye olde trusty flip-flops? Someone send help.

Did you wear flats to your wedding and/or reception? Do you have any awesome non-heeled shoe suggestions?

You can always use http://www.shopstyle.com

You can type in the type of the item you want and the price range and it pulls a bunch of stuff up for you.

So you could type in blue flats under $25 and it pulls all the blue flats under that price :)

It could be fun to play on there!

If you have long toes, the Steve Maddens will almost definitely give you toe cleavage. Which is sad because they have perfect glittery flats which would totally be re-wearable after the wedding. :(

I was drooling over those Kate Spade flats the other day, too. :( I’m keeping a pair of flats handy on the wedding day–just in case!

Oh those shoes are to die for! I love them :)

I am having my shoes painted by figgieshoes (just google her!) you can chose any shoes you want ( even flats!) and know they will be special and unique!

p.s. I am a heel lover and I have a pair of flats and a pair of heels. That way I can change if I need to! No reason to be uncomfy right!

I wore flats, which was a GREAT decision. Comfy, and absolutely no worries about falling.

Target had several different pairs of glittery flats the last time I was there. Might be a place to check out. And they’re cheap!

I’m wearing the Calvin Klein Rya in ivory. Available at zappos and endless. i needed flats too bc my fiance is only an inch taller than me! i think the satin makes them formal, and the crystals give it a little something extra :) Plus theyre around $100 bucks! score.

My fiance and I are exactly the same height, so I will be wearing flats for the ceremony and the reception. Epic win for my feet! We’re doing a wine-themed wedding and I found flats that have cork on them, to further tie in our theme.

I love shoes… Doesn’t matter heels, flats, dressy, casual, boots… I love them all. I am that girl that took over the entire shelf of the closest with my shoes. (My bridal shower is even purse and shoe themed).

I wish you luck on the shoe hunt.

I was just at Macy’s yesterday and they had a pair of gold glitter flats that I had to seriously convince myself that I did NOT need and force myself away from the department. And they were on clearance! I don’t remember who makes them, though =/

I’m in the same boat with you about shoes. I like them but I’m not obsessed with them. I would love to rock a hot pair of heels more often but they just hurt my feet too much and I spend most of the night feeling miserable. It’s not really worth it.

I just checked out piperlime.com and found some really cute flats!

These glittery ones from Steve Madden: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=59278&vid=1&pid=875251&scid=875251002

More sparkles (in gold or silver) from Nine West: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=59278&vid=1&pid=749412&scid=749412022

These could be super cute depending on what your dress and theme is (I think they would look cute for a rustic chic wedding)

Sandals might be pretty too!

More Steve Madden: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=59257&vid=1&pid=879179&scid=879179012

Hope you can find the perfect pair!

I’m wearing all silver Tory Burch flats to my wedding! At $190, they aren’t cheap, but, I’ll wear them again and again after the wedding AND won’t have any heel issues. You just have to make sure to break them in a bit before the wedding.

I’m wearing navy blue ballet flats by Vera Wang Lavender Label…I got them for a steal at Nordstrom. They are my something blue, plus they tie in our colors (navy, grey, and cranberry). I actually found them before the dress–risky, I know, but when I saw them I couldn’t resist!! :)

They look similar to this, but with even more sparkle:

I chose the Ladon by Me Too for all day at my wedding. They’re super comfy and they come in a bunch of colors, including white if you prefer. I got the royal blue ones! There’s also another one by Me Too that looks similar to the Kate Spade ones you posted. They run around $60, too which is a bonus. Good luck!

Kate Spade has a 25% Friends & Family discount this weekend — code is FFSPR11 — if that would make the decision easier!

Steve Madden’s website actually has lots more fab flats – including sparkly ones like the Loubotin but in flats. And, for much less pricy than Kate Spade!
