These (Shoes) Are Made For Walkin’

I am really not a shoe person, at least not in the way that so many other girls are.

Sure, I would kill for a sweet pair of Christian Louboutins. Who wouldn’t? Seriously. How can you resist these? Black glitter shoes are my favorite. Actually, any glitter shoes are my favorite.

{Christian Louboutin. Drool.}

I digress. Anyway, I really don’t own that many pairs of shoes, comparatively. (Did you know that some people have entire closets of shoes? If that is you, I am totally jealous.) I have some kitten-heel shoes for work, a few pairs of flats and boots (including my cowboy boots, which I am obsessed with), workout shoes. One or two pairs of heels. But really? I just like spending my money on things other than super-expensive shoes that will just get worn out in a year.

So, it’s been tricky for me finding shoes that I want to wear at our wedding. Particularly because I am a little bit scared of heels. What?? I’m tall! I have weak ankles! I have a long way to fall if my weak ankles give out on me. Don’t get me wrong—I do want, and am going, to wear heels for my wedding. If it kills me. OK, OK, maybe just for the ceremony. But for the reception? I’m thinking that I need to change into something more…appropriate. Let’s be honest. Since I never wear heels, I will probably die if I try to wear heels for nine-plus hours on my wedding day. Especially since I will be on my feet a lot of the time. And trying to dance in tall heels? Yeah. Not happening. Blisters and raw skin on my feet the day after the wedding do not sound appealing.

Thus begins my quest for the perfect wedding-reception flats. I don’t want anything too plain, but I definitely want them to be comfortable and fun. Granted, people probably won’t be able to see them, but they still must be cute. It’s just a requirement. Don’t question it.

At first, I considered jumping on the Toms bandwagon. They’re flats. They’re breathable. They’re en vogue right now. And, for each pair of Toms you purchase, Toms will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. Win win win, right?

But, they’re just too informal for the look I am going for. I would feel a little bit weird wearing them at the reception, mainly because I don’t wear this type of shoe on a day-to-day basis. So, it would just seem out of place. They’re not “me.”

So I turned to my old, trusty stand by: J.Crew. They have tons of cute flats! And I love Liberty prints (someone please buy me a million yards of that stuff), so I definitely was drawn to these shoes.

But, they’re just a little…blah. Nothing special. They just don’t really scream “wedding,” or even “special event.” I would love to wear them with little gray skinny jeans, though! (Also, J.Crew flats give me toe cleavage, which Mr. Candy Apple hates. Why do I have to have such long toes?!)

Since I clearly know what I’m doing, I did an online search for “wedding blog” and “flats.” Yes. I am awesome. It didn’t really turn up much (obviously), but after some trawling around, I came across this loveliness.

I think they’re from Steve Madden. So that means they are the right price! And, we all know how much I adore eyelet. But, again, they’re just a bit plain for me. (I’m too picky.)

And then. Then, I found these beauties. I mean, come on. Sparkles? A bow? Charcoal gray? I might be a little obsessed with how the square toe makes it look like a ballet shoe. Maybe. Love, love, love. I am just not sure how well they would go with everything. Kate Spade is pretty pricey, too, so I’m not sure I would want to spend that much on flats. Although, let’s be honest, I would wear these all the time with jeans after the wedding.

And…that’s where I have gotten at this point—nowhere. Sigh. I need a personal stylist. I guess there are always ye olde trusty flip-flops? Someone send help.

Did you wear flats to your wedding and/or reception? Do you have any awesome non-heeled shoe suggestions?

I’m wearing flats!!!!!! I love Rocketdog and Chinese Laundry for flats, but I’m also not into sparkle, so I don’t know if that’s helpful. Check out DSW though, NEVER underestimate DSW :)

Eeeeek. I’m a total shoe person and have way too many pairs but I still haven’t the foggiest idea of what I want to wear on W-Day.

Loving the Kate Spade flats and the Steve Maddens! (Oh and you killed me with the shoe cleavage remark…bwahaha)

I’m OBSESSED with those Kate Spade flats. If I could wear flats (for some reason, they’re MUCH more uncomfortable for me than heels — we’re talking blisters as far as the eye can see), I would be wearing them RIGHT. NOW.
    Get themmmmm! :)

I ended up finding really, really low wedges when I perused shoes sites, looking under the “heels” section… I just specified I wanted the lowest heel setting possible. Maybe that would work for you!

I’ll be going the flip-flops route… because you rarely see me in anything else from mid-March until November. And believe me, I’d wear them year-round if the Midwest winters would allow me!

The last shoes are super cute…

Have you considered peep toe flats? I like the look of them better because you see cute toe nails rather than the yuck of wrinkly toe cleavage!

I never wear heels either, and I bought 5 inch crazy heels. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’d like to wear flats to the reception, but I’m afraid I’ll drag on the floor unless I get some sort of smaller heel!

I love all the shoes you showed…I say, go for the most comfortable re-wearable ones :) .

It took me AGES to find my shoes! Haha, I have 3 whole blog posts about it because I was looking for almost a year. I’m with you, I don’t have a million shoes, but the hard thing for me was finding something with a low heel since Daniel’s not that much taller than me. But I finally found the perfect shoes for the perfect price, and I’m sure you will too!

    P.S. Sparkles are awesome!

I wore ivory heels and silver/gold sequined flats that I changed into after our first dance. My feet never hurt all day!

The flats were from the clearance rack at DSW and don’t really seem to exist online…. They also needed arches (I have really high arches), so I bought some stick-on jelly-like arches –also from DSW.

My personal suggestion is to just go shopping and see what you find. Then you can try everything on and see if you get toe cleavage or not. I’m not a fan either.

I got my flats from Top Shop! Check out the website, mine are called MARLA. Oh yeah, I saw a paid of sparkly flats on Forever 21 that look just like the Steve Madden ones. Good luck!
