Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.
About Mrs. Ostrich

Here’s to Hoping

April 8th, 2011 @ 4:42 pm by Mrs. Ostrich

4-6 weeks.

After breathlessly pleading with the Honolulu post office to reroute our wedding boxes, they said “Of course!” (they really are the nicest people ever), typed in our gabillion tracking numbers in their system, made a confused scrunchy face and said:

“You mailed your boxes parcel post??? That can take up to 4-6 weeks. According to our system, your boxes are still in San Francisco.”

UMMMMM. WHAAAAAAAAAAT?

Due to the rising fuel costs, our Parcel Post shipped boxes (the slowest, cheapest shipping option in the land) would take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to arrive to Hawaii…not 2-3 weeks as promised by my shipping dude. If the shipping container filled up quick = 4 weeks. If it didn’t fill up quick = 6 weeks.

And our boxes were…after almost 2 weeks…still in my city?!?!?!

On the outside, I took a deep breath, nodded a lot over the phone, scribbled some gibberish on a notepad, asked some questions, said “thank you so much for all of your help, we’re so grateful,” hung up, called my shipping dude and asked him some questions (he claimed the Hawaiian post office was being overly cautious and this had never happened to him in his shipping-dude life, but would track my boxes down), hung up the phone again…and spent the rest of my time trying to distract myself from the EPIC FAIL that was barreling its way towards us.

On the inside though, I was a MESS. Maniac hair pulling, glass shattering, wall punching, psychotic screaming mess:

WTFHOWCOULDTHISHAPPENHOLYCRAPWELOSTEVERYTHINGI’MSOOOOOOOPISSSSSSSSSSSED!!!

By Monday night (and after a bottle of Malbec), I’d resigned myself to the very real possibility that our boxes would arrive after our wedding. And that while I would’ve wasted a lot of time and $$$$ collecting all of those awesome items for our day, I’d rather have those not show up than the people who mean the most to us. These boxes are just things…really freakin’ cute things, but just things all the same. But I was still disappointed. :(

But this Weddingbee Hive that we live in and adore..has more magic than Hogwart’s Castle.

With all of your SPECTACULAR juju, hive, our almost-lost-at-sea wedding items found their way to our Wedding Coordinator’s home on Wednesday…less than 2 weeks after I shipped them. That’s the photo she took of these ginormous beauties when they arrived and filled up her spare bedroom….because we couldn’t believe our eyes.

Here's to Hoping : wedding hawaii Sylvias Sylvias

When this photo popped up in my inbox, my office mate threw his hands in the air and cheered…and I threw my hands in the air, slid out of my chair and onto the floor, closed my eyes…and smiled the biggest smile EVER.

They arrived to the right address, in 10 days, safe and sound…and a big reason is because of all of your tremendous support, wishing and hoping. To feel that much warm and fuzziness is a supremely awesome feeling, bees, and when you hit a bump along your wedding journey…I’ll be in your corner, supporting, wishing and hoping right back. :)

A HUNDRED THANK YOUS, Hive. You never cease to amaze me.

Hive mojo rocks!! What an awful roller coaster ride for you though. So happy it ended well.

I handle a lot of shipping coordination issues for my company (US and international) so if any of you lovely Bees ever have shipping questions I may be able to share some advice.

I like to see a wedding post with fuck in it every once in a while. I feel like screaming almost all the time, so it’s good to see that someone else does too. Glad your boxes made it!
