A Dress Conundrum

April 8th, 2011 @ 9:15 am by Ms. Gazelle

I picked up my dress! Yippee! After purchasing it, my dress was looked over by the seamstress and it was now ready to pick up.

My dress came with a bonus bag attached to the zipper. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I managed to figure out what everything was inside of it, although that still doesn’t answer all of the questions!

First off, a handkerchief!

Next up, a choker! Um…really? It is on a super-long string. I think I’ll probably find some other jewellery instead…

And last up, a cravat. A what??? I can’t really figure out why I would need some kind of a necktie. Is this for Mr. Gazelle to wear so he can match my dress? It seems like it would make a really large bowtie. Interesting…

Do you have any suggestions on what I should do with the cravat? Did your dress come with any interesting bonuses?

That is so weird. I have never seen a dress come with bonus stuff before. Its like getting an extra prize at the bottom of the cereal box. ;)

The cravat looks almost like a cummerbund. Sort of. And could the choker thing also be for your waist?? How odd. But interesting! Keep us posted if you figure out what the heck any of this stuff is for!

It looks like maybe the cravat is a sash thing to go around your waist and maybe the too-long choker layered on top? Would that work at all? How strange.

Ok I can see it coming with the handkerchief maybe even the choker but the cravat… Yea um not so much…

I didn’t know it at the time but my dress came with a purse and a shawl so that was my little bonus bag although I doubt I will wear the shawl in the August heat.

My dress came with this super-flimsy shawl. I cannot fathom anyone actually using it. But your cravat takes the cake :)

That is totally weird! At least the hanky will come in handy!

Dude, my dress didn’t come with anything. This kind of reminds me of when you cook a turkey, and there is that bag inside with the neck and stuff in it….

@Miss Magic - that made me laugh on a rainy Friday morning!

is the “handkerchief” made from the same fabric as your dress? perhaps it’s actually a swatch for you to carry around in case you need to match your dress to things… and I would also assume that the “choker” and the “cravat” might be sashes for your dress or something like that…

Well, here in Sweden the cravatt usually matches the colour theme of the wedding and not the brides dress. I do like the look of it! http://s.makitalo.nu/htpc/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/kravattm.jpg

How bizarre! I would have been uber confused when I unpacked that box. I can’t think of a single thing you could do with that cravat other than using it as a really large swatch.

The cravat is so that Mr G can match your dress; the hanky is for him to tuck into his breast pocket like this:

No idea about the oversize choker though - maybe for wrapping bouquets?

(I agree with Gundina that you’d expect the groom to match the colours not the dress, though…)

@thesejoys: Yes, I have totally used it as a swatch already! It doesn’t look super absorbent so I question its potential for dabbing away tears of joy on the big day…

That’s really cool, even if I also would not be sure how to use them!!! Still it’s fun to get extras :-)

i would think that the choker and the cravat are to fancy up the waistline, perhaps, and the hanky (it looks unhemmed or is that just the pic?) is actually just a swatch for doing your matchy-matchy business with?

Interesting little extras there! My dress didn’t come with anything else.

Rosamund seems right on the money. The cravatt and hanky are for Mr. G’s royalty-fancy tux, and the “choker” is to wrap your bouquet.
