Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

The Whole Shebang

April 12th, 2011 @ 1:40 pm by Mrs. Magic

When I first stumbled upon Weddingbee, there were a few trends that jumped out at me. One was the magical machine known as a Gocco, which some extremely talented bees used to design and print their own invitations. Truth be told, I impulsively bought one of these a year ago and I still have no idea how to use it. Fail.

But the other two trends that jumped out at me were envelope liners and wraparound address labels…and these trends did not require that I be able to read Japanese.* I had tried my hand at both envelope liners and wraparound address labels before and was excited to do it again to prettify these envelopes that would house my STDs.

I went to Archiver’s and bought three different types of paper—I couldn’t decide, and all the designs looked cute with the save-the-date card that my step-mom designed. Then I made a template and traced it onto the large paper, and then cut out the liners. Actually, I got Mini Magic to cut out the liners because I cannot cut a straight line to save my life.

Mini Magic is so happy when crafting.

I’m not going to write an entire tutorial because there are many online, including these from Hamster, Champagne, Tartlet, Guinea Pig, Lobster, and Starfish, to name just a few. But, I will give you two tips! I made the template so it only went halfway down the envelope, to stretch the paper farther. You couldn’t see through the envelope, so it didn’t matter. Also, our paper was kind of thick, so a regular glue stick did not cut it…er, stick it. Instead, I used Ad tech’s Permanent Glue Runner. It was easy and sticky—yay!

Here are our liners!

Looks kinda like a honeycomb, no?

Pink for the girls!

Sunny yellow!

I had already made the wraparound-label template, so I just changed the color to orange to match our cute kitty cat love stamps that I got (with a coupon, of course) from Zazzle. So, without further ado, here’s the whole shebang!

I’m really pleased with how they turned out, but I have to admit I do not know how people design, print, cut, and assemble their entire invitation suites! Just making envelope liners and wraparound labels and stuffing the envelopes took a lot longer than I anticipated, and I did not even have to design, print, or cut the save the dates! I love the way they turned out…but thinking about the invitations now has me feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Did you ever get bogged down with all the details in a project? How did you handle it?

*Actually, I took four semesters of Japanese in college…and I still can’t work that dang blasted Gocco!

I’m tackling making a calligraphy wedding certificate guest book. Wish me luck.

I’ll take your Gocco off your hands at any time. :)

Yay for Japanese students! I took 3 years in HS then spent a college semester in Sapporo but I still don’t claim to ’speak Japanese’. There’s just too much to learn. :-P

Lucky for me, my mom, sister/MOH, and myself assembled the invites assembly line style and it took about the length of “Letters to Juliet.” Course, we didn’t do liners or anything too too fancy.

You might bust out the Gocco yet, trust me it is so much easier than it looks.

When I opened my Gocco I promptly re-packaged it and stuffed it in a corner because I had *no* idea what the instructions said! ;) It was ignored for well over a month before I actually tried using it.

Love the liner patterns and colors! These are going to make your guests even more excited for your wedding!

I think the only way to get through designing the whole invitation suite is to enlist family and friends!

I love the envelope liners and your wraparound labels. I’m a sucker for details like that too, but I wonder if anyone will notice them on our invites?

Great breakdown! The website I am thinking of ordering my invites from offers envelope liners for additional .50/ea. With your best estimate, would you say DIYing the project came out to less than this?

I love your liners and wrap around labels! I am planning to line my envelopes and after seeing how cute your labels are, I may try that too! Any suggestions. Did you print them on paper and glue them on?

These are too cute, Magic! I desperately want to make wraparound labels for our invitation suite, but I fear I am not crafty enough. Yours came out great (as did the super cute envelope liners). Niiiice ;)

So cute, love the bright colors. I will be checking out the list of tutorials, as I am getting ready to line all my envelopes this weekend.
