Dress Fitting Tomorrow

April 12th, 2011 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

Tomorrow is my first dress fitting! What I’m feeling tonight is a mix of excitement and hesitation. Excited, of course, because it’s my dress. (We’re getting close, hive!) Hesitant because of the what ifs. Off the rack, the dress fits… in the loosest definition of the word. Taking it in at the waist and bust will surely help but will it create the desired curves?

Undergarments, oh my. They’re something I’d like to avoid, if at all possible. June will be hot and sticky. Does the bride have to be hot and sticky too? Less layers, happier me.

And then there’s the bustle.

Going into the fitting, I haven’t entirely decided which style it will be…I’ll have my listening ears on as the dress-maker makes her recommendations. Ever helpful Bridesmaid R is making the introduction (thank you!) and will snap photos so I can show you guys.

Wish me luck!

Any insights or recommendations for a bride the night before her first fitting?

Avoid lots of caffeine and salt so you are as trim as possible… can’t wait to see some photos!

I would say take a deep breath and know that if it isn’t perfect it can be fixed! Mine didn’t fit propperly the first go but after a little tweaking it was perfect.

xoxo,

Shana

p.s. bring your flats and heels to make sure you wont be tripping on a too long dress or ready for a flood in a too short one! lol!

Take along a friend or family member who’s opinion you value. It really helped me choose between two different style of bustles.

Trust your alteration person.

I was nervous at first, but stayed quiet at first. As she was working I was reminded there is a reason she does what she does! She was really good. I expressed that I wanted it really snug and she reassured me it wasn’t going to go anywhere once she was done. She looked at my dress and said “I know exactly what bustle I’m doing with this one.” I let her pin it then looked and totally loved it!!

Don’t get me wrong, if you disagree speak up, but be confident both in their ability and your opinion of how it looks.

Thanks for the recommendations ladies!
@Miss Bacon & @Miss Snow Cone: Whoops! I indulged in an uncharacteristic hot chocolate (caffeine & sugar) this afternoon AND ate edamame for lunch. Hahahaha, bride fail?
@Sunlavender: Choosing between the bustles was the toughest part! Good thing BM R was there to give her voice. My decision really surprised me.
@Gilde37: I was quiet too and told the dress-maker, “You do this for a living. This is my first time. Whatever you think is best!”
@pookiepie& @shanawhimsy: The dress is the perfect length barefoot! No heels needed; thankfully my flats don’t add much height.

I hope your dress fitting goes well! Echoing the PPs, definitely bring your shoes. If you’re looking to minimize skivvies, bra cups were a fantastic alteration that my tailor recommended!

Good luck, PaC! I really have absolutely no useful advice for you (as I’ve yet to have my first fitting), but I wish you lots of luck, pretty lady!
