Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

Before Mr. Snow Cone and I officially became engaged, we definitely had some thinly veiled discussions about the future, living together, the wedding, and the like. We both knew we wanted to end up together and it was only a matter of time, but neither of us wanted to totally abandon the whole still-not-engaged mentality since we were, in actuality…still not engaged. Usually we would talk about it for a few minutes before one of us would get shifty and moderately uncomfortable, quickly changing the topic of conversation.  It was like our own weird little game of wedding chicken.

I guess we were only sort of toying around with ideas before we officially became engaged, so nothing really ventured past the point of “oh, that could be cool…” Except for one thing.

At this point, it’s important for you to learn that both Mr. Snow Cone and I suffer from a severe addiction to The West Wing. Both of us will go to our graves believing that it’s the single greatest show ever created. A couple years back, Mr. Snow Cone started to watch the DVDs, season by season, and I got caught up in the mix. I blew through casually watched the entire series over the course of a semester in college. Even though we’ve both seen literally every episode of this series, we still pop in a random disc to watch pretty much any episode from any season. I mean, seriously…how can you look at this picture and not just feel your inner patriot flair up?? And, politics aside, how can you look at this picture and not totally swoon over all the man-candy?? (My personal fave is Josh, tucked in the bottom right corner. I’ve told Mr. Snow Cone on many occasions that if Josh Lyman existed in real life, instead of merely as a fictitious character, our engagement could be in serious jeopardy. Thankfully, Mr. Snow Cone agrees. He gets me.)

Anyhow, back to my original point. We would jibber-jabber about our future together very infrequently, and the conversations usually lasted only a handful of minutes. However, about three months before becoming engaged, I half-jokingly mentioned to Mr. Snow Cone that we should enter our wedding reception to The West Wing’s intro music. His reaction to my suggestion? A second of silence and a moment of serious contemplation. He then got big eyes and an even bigger smile and stated something to the effect of “OH MY GOD WE HAVE TO…THAT’S PERFECT.” I was not expecting him to be on board about wedding talk in the first place, let alone making decisions about the wedding that wasn’t even officially happening yet. Nevertheless, our intro music was decided courtesy of that one-time, passing discussion.

So, for your listening pleasure, the music that will be playing as we’re introduced as Mr. and Mrs. for the first time:

I’ll admit, it’s not the typical song you hear to announce the new couple, and I frankly don’t expect the majority of our guests to connect the music to the show, but that’s OK with me. This music selection is personal to us and it gets both of us excited, so it seems like a no-brainer!

Did you have any wedding decisions take you by surprise when you least expected them? Any plans to sneak some of your favorite pop culture into your wedding?

First, LOVE LOVE LOVE WW. Second, we were discussing just the other day walking in to the song our favorite baseball team plays before each home game. It’s perfect!

I totally had a moment like that with my fiance. I mentioned something about him probably wanting to wear his kilt for the wedding (which I thought would be awesome) and he casually mentioned that he’d really like to wear tails. Well that just about floored me (cuz he’s not the usual “tails” type of guy), but I’m up for it if he is! :-)

That’s so awesome! Our intro music is a secret from a movie and I don’t know if most of our guests will get it either, but it’s still awesome and is special to us. BTW, love the WW (and Josh!). :-)

@haelmai: My FI said the same thing! It surprised me because he’s not really a ‘tails’ guy either, and our wedding is pretty rustic/casual. I think he just knows it’s the one time he’ll be really justified in wearing something super fancy. We’ll find a way to make it work!

That will sound magnificent! I got hooked on the show when Kristin Chenoweth joined. Which, of course, was near the end… I should go back and catch up.

You just made my morning! My fiance and I are equally as obsessed with West Wing. It is absolutely the best show ever on TV and I must agree it def. has some great eye candy (however as much as I love Josh I am 100% on the Sam train). I love the idea of walking into the theme song- My fiance wants “Hail to the Chief” but I think this is a much better compromise!

GREATEST SHOW EVER! My fiancee and I are currently watching every episode, disc by disc. Just started Season 6. Love that you’re entering to the theme song–it gets me all pumped up every time I hear it!!

My FI is walking down the aisle to the ceremony with the song from his favorite movie. I didn’t say anything but really that movie ‘ain’t it’ at all but it’s what he wants. FYI, it’s a mafia movie and I hate all that shooting and stuff!

AWESOME!! I love that you guys are focussing on each other as opposed to what others might want.

I have to share a funny story. So my FH’s best friend is a part-time professional wrestler (long story), (he used to actually wrestle in the WWF back in the day until he blew his knee out).

His personae is currently ‘The Pimp’ and he struts out to the ring to “Play that Funky Music”, so for his second marriage the lovely violins played for the processional until it was his turn and you guessed it…time to get funky!!

Wouldn’t have been my choice but it was SO him and everyone loved it!

hehe - my mother just sent me an email saying she had “Woot Canaow”. I couldn’t figure out how to get her to type foggy bottom. :)

Oh how I love West wing. So much so that I can only look at the actors and think of them as their characters. (What’s Will doing on Big Bang Theory? Hey look! There’s President Bartlett) Pretty much any of their other work disappears for me.

And what do I love just as much? The American President. Same writers, lots of the same actors-it’s like the prequel to West wing. :D

What a great idea! The West Wing IS the single greatest show ever created! My husband has watched the entire series at least 4 times (I am only on round 2) but when I come home and he’s watching I can always plop down and get into whatever episode is on. It’s brilliant - I have such a brain crush on Aaron Sorkin.
