Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.

Invitation Inspiration

April 13th, 2011 @ 6:41 pm by Mrs. Cotton Candy

I always assumed I would design and assemble our wedding invites. Why wouldn’t I? I designed our oh-so-pretty save the dates so  I should’ve been able to tackle the invites—no problem. Except for the fact that we were about a month and a half behind schedule in sending them out because it took me so long to finish the design—and let’s not forget the many many hours spent in front of my computer; time that could have been better spent on other projects that are now behind schedule. So, I’ve compromised and have handed over the design of our invitation suite along with all of our paper products to the professionals, and Hive, I couldn’t be happier!

For the past couple of months I’ve been working with our coordinator Amanda and  design associate Kristen, and the whole processes has been a breeze. We started off by emailing her a hodge podge of inspiration pictures along with some pics of our STD, font choice and signature pattern.

First up were these fabulous invites by Pinkpolka Wedding Design. I love the bold pattern and simple layout.

I love the vintage flair and colorful details of this free download from the Wedding Chicks.

Our most random inspiration pics was one of Mr CC and I favorite concert posters. The poster is one of our favorites, largely because of its vintage feel and even thought the poster itself has nothing to do with the rest of our inspiration images, I loved the feel of it and wanted to bring that into our invites.

Last but not least was the one design element that I was set on having from day one. A couple of years ago I received a gift from Anthropologie with an adorable button ribbon. I loved it and filed it away as inspiration for a future DIY. For our wedding I plan to use the button ribbon as our invitation suites’ belly bands.

Once I sent our inspiration pics to Kristen I waited impatiently while she worked away creating 3 unique designs for us to choose from, and man, did she ever deliver!

Next time I’ll share with you our 3 proofs along with our final choice!

Anyone else going the custom design route for your invites?

I like the playfulness of the fonts in the invitation designed by Susie of Zee Studio :) But of course, the perfect one with a personal touch is the button ribbon ;)

I have always been a little bit obsessed with those Anthro button ribbons :) Is it weird that I save them when I’ve bought something??

Love your inspiration, CC! Can’t wait to see the results!
