Searching for Dresses

April 13th, 2011 @ 9:10 am by Mrs. Candy Apple

As I have mentioned, I was afraid of indifferent to wedding dresses early on in our engagement. But, since I am a somewhat crazed bride, I of course had been obsessively checking wedding inspiration sites and was thus exposed to many a beautiful wedding gown. The tulle! The silk! The eyelet! The lace! The white and cream and ivory! All things that I love.

And, as my wedding vision developed, I started to notice that I was gravitating toward certain types of gowns. Mainly, those gowns that were vintage-y, flow-y, lace-y, eyelet-y. Those are all words, right? Basically, I was drawn to the elegant, romantic, form-hugging lace gowns that make you think of tea cups and doilies (in a good way).

Anyway, here is the look/style that I was crushing on.

I loved most of Monique Lhuillier’s designs—who doesn’t?? They are so dreamy and exactly the type of style I was going for.

I have a major crush on this dress. Especially the big bow in the back.

This one sort of makes me think of a nightie. But I still love it.

Yummy lace-y long sleeves.

Yes, these types of dresses definitely fit the style of our wedding as I envisioned it. It still makes my heart skip a beat, looking at all of these lovelies.

What style of dress did you go with? Any particular fabrics that caught your eye? What do you think—did I end up with a similar dress?

I am a huge fan of lace dresses. When I first started shopping, folks tried to talk me out of wearing lace (too old fashioned, they said) and I almost went with it. But nah, I am really happy with my lace Pronovias and can’t wait to rock it come July!

My wedding dress is a ballgown with a lot of lace, I love it! There are some lacey fabric that I tried it on and it’s so heavy. It’s better if you try them all and get the feel of it :)

I went in thinking I wanted something very simple, cap sleeves with lace. Came out with a strapless ballgown! lol! It does have lace even though there are flowers all over it!

You’ll find you dress, I honestly never thought I would and I am as happy as a honey bee!

xoxo

So glad I saw this - the Hjelm on Ruffled that you posted is my dress, and I’ve been struggling with shoes/veil to match. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Love lace dresses! I am going with a lace and silk Paloma Blanca (style 4101). It has the keyhole back that some of these pictures have. Love lace, even though the first store I went to told me lace was for the “older” bride…they were just trying to convince me of that since they had no lace!

I loved all the lacy dressed until I went and tried them on. They did nothing for my body shape. So I ended up with an awesome dress that was not something I would have normally picked.

I am not a lacy person but that one with the bow…swoon! I knew I waned flowy and chose an organza Enzoani dress. It isn’t what I pictured myself wearing, I always thought I would like a ball gown but sadly, it did not like me back.

I don’t think I work the lace look very well—but I can definitely see you pulling off one of those beauties very nicely!!! Your inspiration gowns are totally gorgeous. You are going to be such a stunning bride, CA :)

Such a long-term love affair with lace I’ve had! I’m also a huge fan of tulle, but ended up with an all-over lace gown that I still adore. *squee* I’m looking forward to seeing your dress chronicles!

The lacework big bow gown reminds me of the St. Pucchi lace applique one I fell in love with. Drooling… (Personally, I’m not into lace but these are beautiful gowns!)

I had no idea what kind of gown I would want, but as I started looking at mags and pictures online, I definitely gravitated to the lacy, closer fitting dresses. I love how they are simple silhouettes, but look so lovely and interesting with the intricate lacework. (I ended up with with a very simple all alencon lace dress - perfect!) Can’t wait to see what you ended up with!

I was totally going to point you to Vintage Opulence for lace. I actually have two dresses from her on the way this week, but if I can’t wear them I plan to beg her to cobble together two styles (top of one, bottom of the other) that I saw in her feedback pages. Also, the seller seems like quite a sweet woman.
