Mrs. Meerkat's Picture
Mrs. Meerkat, Kalamazoo, MI/Riviera Maya Age and Occupation: 30, Application Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, IT Consultant Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: Al Cielo / La Laguna About Me: I’m a tech-savvy tomboy with an affinity for hot tea and good sushi. Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.

Journey Of A Thousand Miles: The Ceremony Conclusion : wedding pictures pro pics recap riviera maya Recap03 Recap03

Now that we had walked down the aisle, heard Mama-In-Law Meerkat tell our love story, performed our sand ceremony and exchanged vows and rings, there was only one thing left for Roberto to do—bless our marriage.

Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other.

Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there will be no loneliness, for each of you will be companion to the other.

Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you.

May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead and through all the years.

May happiness be your companion and your days together be good and long upon the earth.

Then, in what seemed like a blink of an eye, our ceremony was over and I heard Roberto say the words that I have been waiting two and a half years to hear:

I now pronounce you husband and wife. Chris, you may kiss your bride.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my privilege to present to you for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Meerkat.

Then I heard our guitarist start to play our recessional song, First Day Of My Life.

Mr. Meerkat leaned towards me and whispered “what do we do now?” My reply: “We walk.”

At that moment it was still sinking in that I was now a married Meerkat.

It all felt like something right out of a fairytale or movie. It was surreal.

I remember Mr. Meerkat and I laughing and joking with each other as we walked down the aisle but for the life of me I can’t remember a thing we said. I just remember feeling so completely happy.

As our guests made their way down the aisle, Sol and Jonathan grabbed a picture of each person or couple as they passed.

I never would have thought to put this on my “must have photos” list but it resulted in not only a picture of everyone at the wedding but in one of the only pictures I got with our moms together.

I love that they left the ceremony together holding hands. It really did put into action what Mama-In-Law Meerkat said in our ceremony about our families growing together.

Oh dang… IMO I usually don’t like lighter suits, but Mr. Meerkat looks SO cool! The colour is popping… is his tie coral or red? I’m absolutely loving it! :)

You have some of the absolute BEST wedding poems/speeches/sayings I’ve ever heard. Did you write them yourself? Google them? Borrow them from somewhere?

@Future Mrs.+Huban & @MissCasey: Ok So you ready for the long answer to where I got all text from?

Readings: All of our readers are AVID book lovers so they choose from some of their favorite books; Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Essential Sufism, Poems of James Kavanaugh.

Sand and Hand Ceremony: I did a lot of Googling and put together piece of different ones so that they were personal and applied to us.

Love Story By MIL Meerkat: I printed off this article about writing a love story in place of a wedding address. The rest was all my MIL. http://www.weddingbeepro.com/2009/08/05/creating-a-love-story-thinking-outside-the-box-for-wedding-addresses

The rest of the text was bits and pieces I found from searching online. I think all most all of it was different humanist ceremonies I found online. (Big thanks to Mrs. Bear Cub for post about humanist ceremonies.)

If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will see if I can point you in the same direction I went. ;)
