Penchant for Pinwheels

April 14th, 2011 @ 4:23 pm by Mrs. Biscuit

You know when you start nearing the 100 day mark and you’re supposed to stop looking at inspiration and start actually doing things for your wedding? Well, I didn’t get that memo. I was perusing my throngs of wedding websites over the weekend, and I saw something that was pretty cute:

via HELLO, my name is Heather

This got the wheels turning…hmmmm, maybe we could have some cute pinwheels for the kids to play with.

After further investigation, my dreams got loftier and were escalated to also giving some as props to the groomsmen and bridesmaids.

Then, suddenly, my pinwheel fever exponentially increased and I realized I wanted to make them for guests to hold as we left the church. And then I found this awesome tutorial and decided I wanted to make them ALL myself. Why? Because I suppose I’m a wedding masochist. Oh, and I am gunning for the title “Queen of Bulk DIY.”

Oh—and shhhh! don’t tell my Mom. I think she’ll kill me if she knows I’ve added another project. This is just a big secret between us OK? But come on—how can you say no to this stuff?

My dreams were almost dashed after I couldn’t find any scrapbook paper or origami paper that was double sided in the colors I was looking for. Then, the lightbulb went off in my head and I realized I could back each paper with another coordinating piece using fabric glue. OK, maybe it was a fortuitous Google search, but I like to pretend I did it myself.

Have you all took on a large project close to the wedding? Did it work out?

I pretty much had the same train of thought with pinwheels when I first got engaged. I wanted them everywhere! I made about 10, and then got sick of them. There will now be zero pinwheels at my wedding. I hope to see them at yours though!

Pretty! We’re less than 40 days out, and I’m just about swearing off DIY projects…

Looking at inspiration this late in the game is dangerous (that’s how I ended up doing the kabuki streamers from project wedding!). I’m two weeks away from my wedding, and I still can’t stop looking and loving!

We are doing pinwheels for our escort cards, and I just love the sense of whimsy they add!

Good luck with yours.

Love pinwheels, but my husband knocked them off the list because it was too much to do. Boo!

Must…make…pinwheels! SO cute! I figure if I can make even just 10-15 I can mix them with the ribbon wands and flags. People need celebratory choices, no?

It is almost 90 days before our wedding and we just finished our first pinwheel project last week! We made 40 pinwheels to line the pathway from our ceremony site to the reception site. Our next project is making pinwheel escort cards! I don’t know why I am saying *we* though since my FI did most of the work! Also, Michael’s has doublesided paper!

for some reason, in my mind, DIY projects always got done right before the wedding, adding to the stress of it all. It’s been a learning experience that you can actually knock things off the list MONTHS before you would need them. With that being said, I’m still lazy and not crafty, so I don’t try my hand at DIY too frequently. Kudos to you, and I luhrve the pinwheels!

Yay for pinwheels! They’re so fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing yours in action! My brain wouldn’t work when I tried making one. I lack the spacial/dimensional prowess. ;)

I hope this Costco-scale DIY works out because it sounds awesome, matches your theme and it’s too late for me to do it so you totally should!

We are having giant bm pinwheels, pinwheel confetti on the tables, and even pinwheels to lead the guests to the ceremony. I’m way more than obsessed with them and Mr. Bunbun had to hear me squeal when I saw your post. I am not sure if you’ve already glued stuff together but online I found what I’ll most likely use.

I am actually using pinwheels instead of flowers (because I am cheap like that). I have made pinwheel bouts for the fellas and family members… you get the idea. Pinwheels actually aren’t as hard as they seem.

Something that is important to the spinning aspect is to make enough space for the paper to actually turn. We did this by using a bead between the dowel and the pinwheel. We also discovered that glue dots really won’t do the trick- so make sure and break out the hot glue gun to make any loose ends stay together. We also decided to use adhesive pearls (thanks hobby lobby) to make the middle a little more interesting. Hit up my blog for more info.

LOVE! Make it easy on yourself and get a can of spray glue to put the two pieces of paper together. Goes REALLY quick that way. ;)
