About Mrs. Sparkler

So, I’m pretty sure I’m the only Kanye fan left… but I had to give him a shout out in my title today, because this post is about BLING. Wedding bling. More specifically, my engagement ring. I realized a few days ago that I never got around to showing it to you all. And while flashing my ice around isn’t usually my style, I wanted to share it with you for a few reasons:

  1. I love it
  2. Everyone loves sparkly, pretty things
  3. I had a bitch of a time getting it to fit right, and the solution is worth sharing

First thing’s first, here’s what I’m rockin:

Throw Your Diamonds in the Sky if You Feel the Vibe : wedding chicago rings 13 1

That’s Essie’s “Lilacism” polish for my fellow nail freaks ;)

Sparks designed that thing all by himself. Can you believe it? I mentioned a few things to Sister Sparkler (skinny band, diamond border) and she must have sneakily passed that info on to Sparks. Good work team, good work.Throw Your Diamonds in the Sky if You Feel the Vibe : wedding chicago rings Icon Wink ;)

But, like I said, I had a BITCH of a time getting it to sit right on my finger. My ring was about two and a half sizes too big when I first got it, and I thought getting it sized down would be the end of it spinning around and driving me nuts. Nope.

No matter how small I made it, the top of my ring was constantly underneath my finger… putting it in the prime position for getting banged up. And that’s what happened. It was terrible.

After a hard bang on the countertop, one of the small diamonds fell out of the border. I was heartbroken and cried forEVER. Thankfully, our jeweler replaced the diamond (FOR FREE) and offered a solution that saved my ring (and my sanity… a spinning ring makes it hard to do pretty much anything).

Balls.

Those two tiny balls (known as “spacers” to more mature audiences) hug my little finger and have kept my ring from spinning since the day the jeweler placed them there! Sweet relief! And the best part is, I can get them shaved down or removed for free if I don’t need them during warmer weather.

See the hugging action? I tried to take a picture of my finger… not happening.

Did anyone else have a tough time getting their ring to fit? Did spacers save your life, too?

Thanks SO much for this tip, Sparkly…I SO need those balls! (Feels a bit naughty saying that, blush-blush.) I hate when my sparkler spins on my finger, too.

Gorgeous ring! Mine is slightly similar except my stone is cushion cut. I also am having quite the time with ring fit…when my hands are freezing if I shake my wrist hard enough I can shake it right off (which scares the crap out of me!), but then in the warm weather my fingers tend to swell up like sausages and it is snug. I’m going to give it some more time until I figure out what I am going to do…I’m leaning towards leaving it alone because realistically the way I have to shake my hand to get it to shake off when they are cold isn’t an action I normally do. Glad you were able to solve your problem!

@Mrs. Trail Mix: It’s actually an ascher cut! Like an emerald with rounded edges :)

Your ring is lovely!
And thanks for the tips on the ring fit. My rings fit OK, but my husband’s ring sometimes gets VERY loose if his hands get cold. I’ll have to tell him to look into spacers to see if maybe that would help it fit more snug. (Snugger? Snuggly?)

I sure have thought about doing something like this because my ring slides all around my finger.

Love the ring!

I got a right hand ring for graduations that has balls too! Re-sizing would have loosened the diamonds so that was the only solution. Looks a little funky off, but I think it gives it character!

I have those little balls on my ring as well. They are the best thing ever! I cannot suggest getting them enough, I had to get them because my finger is skinny and is a little more oval than round and it has worked like a charm.

I die. Your ring is spectacular!!! My ring was spinning too before I got it sized…but I have my great gmas ring and the spacers make that thing sit perfectly on my lil fingers. Again, your ring is to DIE for.

LOVE your ring, Sparks! I’ve gotta look into getting a couple of balls *chortle* added to my ring because I have the same spinning problem. Thanks!

I HAVE THE SAME RING!! Exact same accept the supports under the diamond are a bit different. It also has a European shank, with two little weights buildt in, to prevent it from spinning. Could you have the shank built up like that?

We are oh-so-similar! My ring (which looks just like yours except with a round stone) also slid all over the place. The balls were the magic touch for me, too!
