Mrs. Ostrich's Picture
Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.
About Mrs. Ostrich

16 DAYS, hive.

And in 11 days, the Ostrich duo will be stressing relaxing along the powdery beach in HAWAII. Ahhhhhh, I can’t wait! :)

OK, so as many of you know, there is a flurry of to-the-wire to-dos that we brides tackle around this time: final dress fittings, bridal showers, wedding ring buying, seating chart-ing, wedding timeline-ing, vendor paying, etc., etc., etc.

And I totally have done all of these and will share these bridal bits with you…but first we need to talk about one detail that Mr. O and I hold very near and dear to our hearts…

THE WEDDING SOUNDTRACK!

Music, as I have professed in many previous posts, makes our world go ’round. And if there’s one thing our little Ostrich wedding family has in common, it’s our love for all things music. We boogie, karaoke, make mix tapes, listen to Pandora.com all day at work, live for Summer Music Festivals and spend a disproportionate amount of $$$$ buying tunes for our iPods. It’s the air we breathe. :)

SOOOOOOO, Mr. O and I have agonized over what we wanted to be the perfect wedding playlist. Since we’re lovers of all music genres, this made editing super tough, but we think we have it , hive…and I want to share it with all of you, hear what you think AND consider any other MUST PLAY recommendations from my fellow music-loving bees. I’m sure we missed an awesome song or two and the more music, the better. :)

Our filters for song selection? They have to make us—and our wedding peoples—do one or all of the following:

  • Say: “Awww.” and sway along to the music
  • Say: “Niiiiice.” and dance in their seats during dinner
  • Say: “OMGThisSongIsMyJaaam!” and bum rush the dance floor
  • Shamelessly sing {loudly} along
  • Start a dance-off Britney would be proud of.
  • Jump up and down, uncontrollably, fist pumping beside friends in a circle of love

So if you’re an indie rock-’80s-motown-hip-hop-top 40-lovin’ duo like the Ostriches, or just LOVE to bust a groove, close the door, turn up your volume and get ready.

LET’S DO THIS. :)

Indie Rock / ’80s:

R&B / Motown:

Did you make it through, hive? What are your faves? AND…what jams did we miss that we’ve gotta add?

Thanks for dancin’ along with me! STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 - The dance arty!!! :)

I’m dancing in my chair inside my cubicle just *reading* this list! :)

PS - My cubicle neighbor is now firmly convinced I’m crazy. Mostly because this would not be the first time I’ve done such a thing. ;)

I would just like to say that Amy Winehouse does a cover of “Cupid” for the Valentine’s Day soundtrack (didn’t like the movie, but like the soundtrack a lot), and it is really cool.

Love your list… like a lot! Mr. LK is in charge of ours. There have been several instances where I turn to him and say “This song should be on the list,” to which he smiles and says “It already is.” Yay for being on the same musical wavelength!

Love you, Ostrich! This playlist is tops ;) Some of my personal favs from your list—the oldies (Van Morrison, The Beatles, Otis Redding, Chuck Berry), the Cardigans (I think I wore out their cassette tape in junior high), Rilo Kiley! Duffy! Ahh, I could go on forever. Looking forward to Part II!

Your playlist looks pretty good to me.

I’m getting a little annoyed with my fiance since I told him he could do most of the music, because he wants to ban every song other people will know from the playlist.

Love it!
Eyes- Rogue Wave has been one of my top played songs for YEARS! Ok, and then Norah Jones, to Ingrid Michaelson, to
my most FAVE Rilo Kiley song and then into Temper Trap! <3 <3 <3
Loving it over here!
The R&B and MoTown is more FH’s style, but your indie Rock/80’s mix is SO me!

Are you guys giving this to a DJ to play or are you going the iPod route? We are debating that right now.

@Shea_Butter: *Blush* Aww, I love finding music twins! We were originally gonna go iPod but decided to hire a DJ to avoid the stress the day of. We’re giving this list to him and he’s gonna maneuver thru the tunes based on how the wedding peoples energy. I can’t wait!

I can’t believe you’re that close?! That’s insane.
Also, love your playlists! Mr. PaC and I have been laboring over ours for a few weeks. I see a few of our songs making appearances on your list. The trickiest songs for me have been ceremony music.
