Mrs. Jam's Picture
Mrs. Jam, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer Engagement Date: December 23, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
About Mrs. Jam

Mr. Jam and I consider ourselves very, very lucky in the wedding party department. Here we have 10 mind-bogglingly unique personalities that really make us better people and add a dose of fierceness to our lives. And you know what? We think it’s our duty to honor that…in our own way, of course.

*OK, our darling Weddingbee-obsessed bridesmaids: If you want to be surprised about your picked-with-love accessories for the big day, move on to celeb gossip blogs. If not…don’t say I didn’t warn you.*

You know how Mr. Jam and I love hitting up all sorts of sales and kitschy shops, right? And we go as often as humanly possibly? Well, we’ve been on a secret mission for the last few months: mismatched-yet-cohesive bridesmaid accessories.

And not just any old bridesmaid accessories; we’re talking ones that are totally unique to each gal’s personality and style. Or, as unique to their style as vintage allows. Remember, each bridesmaid has chosen her own neutral/champagne/tan dress and whatever shoes in whatever color she wants. Ah, the joys of not having a color scheme!

So, without further ado, I now present the handbags:

This is just a small sampling of what I’ve collected; there are several more lurking at my mom’s house for safekeeping (AKA away from me so I don’t use them myself before the wedding).

Each clutch was selected with love and were sometimes the result of a heated barter. One was free, kindly given to me at a garage sale after they heard what I’ll be using it for; one still had an original price tag tucked in the inside pocket; and one is the clutch I’ll be carrying on the big day. Any guesses which one it is?

As for jewelry, I’m paying homage to my favorite style, inspired by my stylish grandma: vintage acrylic multi-strand necklaces and bracelets. I’ve been collecting and wearing them for years, and nothing would be more fitting than merry maids rocking similar adornments down the aisle:

Like the handbags, the rest of the wedding jewelry is hidden from me because I may have gotten caught wearing a necklace to work. In my defense, it’s incredibly hard to buy something so beautiful and then not keep it for yourself, you know?! Sheesh.

I have more tricks up my sleeve for our ever-fierce ladyfriends, but I’m freakishly excited to honor their individuality at the wedding. They’re just too wonderful not to, and I hope they enjoy all of this stuff as much as we’ve enjoyed collecting it all.

What about your bridesmaids’ accessories, hive? Did you decide to honor their unique styles, or are you into a more uniformed look? Did you go the all-vintage route, too? Brownie points for pictures!

And since I’ve been sort of MIA and doing the whole “OMG, we have less than two months left to plan, AHHH!” thing, here’s a little peek into what we’ve been collecting lately:

Vintage Goods for our Merry 'Maids : wedding bridesmaid gift chicago 028 …crap in jars! You’re so excited, I know. Just wait until you see it out of the window and in action!
