Magic Words

April 16th, 2011 @ 1:40 pm by Mrs. Hyena

The man may be the head of the household, but the woman is the neck and can turn the head any way she wants.

Magic Words : wedding college station music My Big My-Big-

Image credit: Gold Circle Films via IMDB / My Big Fat Greek Wedding

I’ve finally convinced Mr. H that we had to have “Smile” by Uncle Kracker as our first dance. HOORAY!

We’ve had the majority of our music discussions while on the road visiting our families, since there’s not much distraction and we have time to kill. While in my hometown, Mr. Hyena and I decided to grab lunch at Taco Bueno. (Bryan/College Station has no Taco Bueno. FOR SHAME.) This may or may not have influenced his decision making, knowing that a delicious Wholotta Platta was coming his way. I had YouTube up on my iPhone so we could listen to songs, and I casually mentioned that I still liked “Smile” as an option. He couldn’t remember which one that was, so I casually looked it up (it was already loaded) and played it for him.

“It’s nice,” he commented.

Then I uttered the magic five words: “It makes me really happy.”

Well, of course, smart fiancés ALWAYS want to keep their ladyfolk happy, and Mr. H is one smart cookie, so he agreed. And I think it’s grown on him a lot since then. He’s bought it on iTunes and has sung parts of it to me a few times. He says it’s very “us.” Exactly!

Have you had to talk your fiancé into anything wedding related? How did it go? Or better yet, has he had to talk you into anything?

The man is the head of the household? We went for a more 50/50 type of relationship….

Haha I love that quote! Haha my fiancée and I both know how to get to eachother’s soft spots when we want something. Usually though it lead to us arguing for the other one to get what they want.

good job! I FINALLY convinced my fiance to ditch the receiving line. We expect 300 ppl to be at our wedding and though I love people I simply don’t have the patience for something that will take that long!

Very cute! And gotta love a Greek wedding! ;-)

My husband is not a dancer (I know a lot of women can relate) and was kind of nervous about a first dance. So I researched songs and found one of his favorites–Make Someone Happy by Jimmy Durante! (He would say the “make just one someone happy” words to me a lot while we were dating; they are his inspiration for living, I think–lucky me! ;-) It turned out to be a beautiful song for a first dance–short, sweet, kind of magical-sounding, and they meant a lot to me. We did our sway, and it was great!

Best wishes on your first dance!

@crayfish: I don’t actually believe that, it’s a quote from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”

@Miss Hyena: Maybe it should have been in quotes then? As it is, it looks like something you’re saying.

@crayfish: She’s making a joke about being able to sway the FI to her side by using a funny quote from a movie which plays on the idea that women are actually in control of the relationship… The movie is pictured directly below the quote.

We’ve both done our share of convincing when it comes to wedding-related items! Those magic words definitely make a huge difference when one of us is indifferent while the other is really set. :) Glad you two love your first song, H!

Ignoring the great debate on whether or not the line should be in quotes or not (I’m on the ‘it should be’ side, for the record), I’ll jump to the question.

YES! I’ve managed to coax my FI into one or two things. Mostly the custom wax seal that I really wanna get. It wasn’t a matter of “magic words” but rather the fact you can get SILVER SEALING WAX! That was the magic that swayed him to the custom seal. (it’s a long story, lol).

YAY for coaxing your FI to go with the song you love!!

Such a funny quote! We’re pretty good at compromising but most of the time we’re already on the same page.
