About Ms. Sloth

Girls Gone Mild

April 17th, 2011 @ 6:15 pm by Ms. Sloth

So, I haven’t been feeling well these past few weeks. I’ve never been this exhausted in my entire life; I can barely function during the day. My appetite has been non-existent, and my body is weak and achy. My doctor tells me that there is nothing really physiologically wrong with me.

He said that it must be stress.

And that makes sense. I’m getting married in a month (OMG) and just moved into a new home. This is a very, very busy and stressful time in my life.

But this post isn’t about how crappy I’ve been feeling. I’m just telling you, hive, so that you’ll understand, after you read a few more paragraphs, why I am the LAMEST PERSON ON THE PLANET.

But we’ll get to that in a minute.

After my wedding shower, I went home, crashed on the couch for a few hours, and then got ready for my bachelorette party. Like the shower, I didn’t really know the details of the party. The girls knew that I wanted something low-key, and that I’d be happy as a clam with just a chill dinner followed by cocktails.

I had no idea where we were going until Bridesmaid K picked me up and informed me that we were headed to Zama, which is supposedly one of the best sushi places in Philly.

SUSHI!!!! My absolute favorite!

The party was small but perfect: me and six of my closest friends.

And of course, a ton of sushi. Droooooooool.

Unfortunately, after stuffing my face full of delicious nomz and two Lychee Fizzes (lychee liqueur with sparkling wine, highly recommended), I was exhausted.

“Zzzzzzzz”

And when Bridesmaid K presented me with a choice of several nearby bars at which to continue my bachelorette party, I had to decline. I’d had such a good time, but I’d had a long day and could barely stand up anymore, due to how crappy I’d been feeling.

The girls still wanted to go out, but I didn’t. And so I left my own bachelorette party early. LAME!

The girls understood. I was ready to jump into a cab, but they decided to continue at a bar in my neighborhood so that they could give me a ride home.

I really did have a fabulous time. The food was amazing and it had been way too long since I’d just kicked back and relaxed with this whole group of girls. It was a lot of fun.

But I think that part of me will always regret leaving my bachelorette party early. Although I felt like total crap and really wouldn’t have had fun if I’d forced myself to stay out, I really wish that I’d felt well enough to continue to party on. After all, this is the only bachelorette party I’ll ever have.

Oh, well. I still loved my bachelorette dinner and love my friends for planning it!

Has anyone else out there had a low-key bachelorette party?

Oh don’t feel bad about leaving early! you won’t regret it, because you were tired and you enjoy more going to your home and had some sleep.
The way I see it, if you had gone, you would be in bad mood (sleepy mood) and regret going because you weren’t enjoy it. The good thing is that you expend a good time with your girls and there will always time to party when you are feeling good, like for instance YOUR WEDDING! so save your energy to enjoy it;)

Miss Sloth, if you don’t mind my asking, have you been tested for celiac disease? I ask because I have it, and before being diagnosed was often inexplicably tired, achy, unwell, with little to no appetite…it causes a host of other symptoms and might be worth checking out with your doctor. It can come on due to stress. Now that I’m diagnosed and on a gluten free diet, I feel like a new person. When I hear of other people with mystery illnesses that sound like that, I just feel I should offer my input in case it’s related!

I think it’s really, really important to know your own limits and be protective of not getting yourself over-exhausted. I was in the exact same position leading up to our wedding - we got married across the country from where we live, and there was a ton of people in from out of town. I actually barricaded myself in our hotel room the week before and ordered room service because I just couldn’t be social anymore. Hang in there!!

In the end, you just need to know what your body can handle and take the time out to care for it. I hope you feel better! The sushi looks AMAZING.

I hear you on the hardly-able-to-function-ness. I get home from work, flop down on the couch, and don’t move until bedtime. Or I just fall asleep out there until CB comes home and moves me to bed.

Rest and take it easy. Stress can be mindnumbing and exhausting. Hopefully you and FI are planning a honeymoon or minimoon to have a chance to relax after the wedding? Your sushi dinner looked super yummy…….wanting me some sushi now….

I have been feeling the same way lately! I honestly don’t even have a desire to go out for a bachlorette party! How sad is that. I think we as brides just give too much of ourselves sometimes and we run out of steam. Nothing to worry about.

I think it’s really, really important to know your own limits and be protective of not getting yourself over-exhausted. crayfish is totally right about this. It’s not worth going out for a few more drinks only to A) feel like shit after and B) not even enjoy it all that much.

The shower and bachelorette party in one day is a lot! There is nothing wrong with listening to your body. You obviously need the rest. You look GREAT by the way! One month away - yippee!

Don’t regret it! You did what you and your body needed at the time. PLUS it’s not like you didn’t have fun when you were out (and eating all that amazing-looking sushi). You didn’t need the wild bachelorette party, you had a quiet and fun night with your girls. Save it for your wedding. And get some rest!

I second what May253 said and experienced similar symptoms that both you and she mentioned. I hope you feel better soon!

I hear you! I’ve been so exhausted lately and am chalking it up to wedding planning and a new job. It’s really frustrating, though, because this is such a happy time… but, it’s wearing me out!

Having the shower and bachelorette in one day is a lot! My hen night was pretty low key, but was perfect because I was dunzo by the time the clock struck midnight (and I was really surprised I made it that late). The sushi and cocktails look delish, and everyone looks like they’re having a great time! :)

I don’t enjoy sushi, but other than that, you and I sound a lot alike! I’m much more “mild” than “wild,” and I’m more than happy with a fun dinner and a chill place to have some drinks for my bachelorette!
