Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst Engagement Date: March 12, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Casa Punto de Vista About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
About Mrs. Pancakes

A Lovely Lounge

April 18th, 2011 @ 3:13 pm by Mrs. Pancakes

I’ve been doing A LOT of vintage posts recently. From my love for vintage mismatched plates to my obsession with vintage hankies, I’ve been vintage crazy! Now, as a change of pace, I want to talk about my Cake & Champagne reception.

As you may recall, we will be having an early morning wedding. Originally, I wanted to get married at sunrise (it’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember) but we decided to spare my guests the agony of waking up at 5AM…. sooooo we are having the wedding at 9. (I know, I know… but the invites are out so it’s happening at 9!) After getting married down on the beach, the guests will join us back at the villa for an amazing brunch!

One of the common complaints about brunch weddings is that people can’t really “party” at 11AM! After much thought, we decided to also host a Cake & Champagne reception in the evening. At first we were going to do it in the main living-room but the space seemed like it may be too large for our group and there is something so special about dancing under the stars, so we decided to take it upstairs! If you remember the rooftop terrace at the villa, we’ve decided to hire a DJ and turn that area into a lovely dance/lounge space.

This is what the space looks like:

We are going to rent a clear tent, rent some great white furniture and hang ribbon and candles in the space. We are also trying to get our wedding logo screen-printed on some throw pillows to add color to the space.

These three photos are the inspiration for the space:

The great thing about the villa is that there are already lots of throw pillows and great white furniture at the house. So hopefully we’ll be able to get away with renting just one or two pieces and just screen printing a dozen pillowcases or so. (Plus, I’ll be able to take the pillowcases home!)

So here’s the furniture at the house. How much do you love the little round chairs? I think they are so adorable and SO perfect for the lounge!

What do you think? Do you think my guests will love it or think its a little self-indulgent to invite them BACK for more festivities?

***Later, I’ll blog about the great desserts and late-night snacks we have planned! After all, it wouldn’t be a late-night lounge with out late-night bar foods, right!?!?

I don’t think its self-indulgent. I think its a great way to squeeze in whooping it up so you have no regrets for your big day!!

Those that really feel like they are missing that portion will gladly rsvp to return in the evening - love that space btw! How classy!!

I think this sounds (and looks) awesome. Wedding, brunch, nap, beach, and partying. Sounds like the perfect day to me.

Oh, I love your space and what you are going to do with it. You know, your concept of pillows reminds me of Mrs. Hippos http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/04/07/wedding-pillows/#more-192995

Sounds like your wedding will be a lot of fun!

My wedding is at sunrise, and since its May the ceremony will start at 5:15. Surprisingly it didn’t go over as bad with people as we thought. At first my FI wanted to have an after party in the evening but it was just so much money to throw the morning reception and the evening one (plus we don’t drink), so we scratched the after party idea.

Ahh, I will live vicariously through your stunning lounge furniture decorated wedding, Miss P. :) I was lusting after lounge future for our beach reception but couldn’t find ones that were cute AND not a zillion dollars. so excited for you!

Will your guests mind TWO parties, the second of which will have CAKE and CHAMPAGNE? No way! I’d be thrilled to attend, especially with the decor plans you’ve laid out. I’m excited for your wedding and I’m not even a guest.

I have to admit that I was a part of a wedding like this, and everyone that I spoke with was very unhappy with the split celebrations, myself included. For one thing, wearing a cocktail dress doesn’t look quite right in the morning, and wearing a sundress doesn’t look quite good at night…sounds petty, but nobody likes to feel oddly dressed at a major social event. Another thing that I didn’t like about it was that I lived an hour and a half away from the wedding location (as did most of the guests) which meant that I left the 30 minute ceremony, and had to decide if I wanted to stay in the area for 9 hours, or if I wanted to drive home and then drive back at night. I know I could have opted to stay home for either the ceremony or reception, but these were good friends and I was genuinely interested in sharing in both.

Just some a few things to keep in mind.

I think it’s a fabulous idea, Pancakes! I would most definitely be thrilled to be comin’ back for some more (plus the break gives time to sneak in a quick nap on the beach!) Can’t wait to hear about the desserts and other late-night snacks!

I think a late-night lounge party is an incredible idea for your destination wedding! As a guest I would feel totally spoiled all day (and night) long! :D

I think the cake and champagne reception is a fantastically fun idea. Just be sure that the champagne is sweet so it pairs well with the sweet cake. Nobody likes a bitter champagne face!

I think its brilliant :) I’m bias- we rented very similar furniture and created a lounge area at our venue where we served regular fries & sweet potato fries and much more! I SAY DO IT ;)
