How I Met My Other: Part Dos

April 18th, 2011 @ 10:08 am by Mrs. Pony

I hope I didn’t leave anyone in too much suspense after my last “how we met” post, so here is the final installment of our Pony dating tale:

As I explained, when Mr. Pony and I first met he had a girlfriend. We’ll call her Liz. Not only was Mr. Pony dating Liz, but she was also a law student at our school. Now, at this point in time I did not have feelings for Mr. Pony. Guys with girlfriends were really not my thing. Mr. Pony was no different. Sorry, Ponyman.

Mr. Pony and I continued to hang out in study group and at school, but I never considered him anything other than a friend. I am sure he didn’t think of me as anything other than a friend either.

At one of our final study sessions of first semester, Mr. Pony announced to our group that he and Liz had split up. I don’t know why, but at that moment I knew we would end up together. I can’t figure out how or why I thought this, but it just felt right. (That is officially the cheesiest thing I’ve ever said, but I swear it’s true.)

After our last horrible final of the semester, a group of us went out to lunch to celebrate and commiserate. Mr. Pony and I sat and watched everyone else leave until we were all alone. At that point Mr. Pony asked for my permission to ask me out on a date. (How cute is it that he asked permission to ask me out?) I of course said yes, but knowing we would be on winter break for the next four weeks, I was a little scared that Mr. Pony might forget about me. Especially if you consider how much alcohol was involved at the end-of-semester party that night. (Hint: it was a LOT.)

Luckily, Mr. Pony did call me. He took me on a wonderful date, and we have been inseparable (and unstoppable) ever since!

Ah, the early days of law school. I remember after the first semester. I think I might have slept for 3 days after my Property finals. Damn stupid Rule Against Perpetuity!! Congrats to you and Mr. Pony. Hope you are enjoying life post law school :)

Aww I love this story! Ours is really similar! When “J” and I first started dating, he had a girlfriend. Even though I had a major crush, it was hands-off. But I still had a feeling that someday we would be more than friends.
By the time they finally broke up, I had a boyfriend, “W”. Luckily, J was a lot braver than I was, and much better at expressing his intentions. Not too much later I had broken up with W, and 3 years later J and I are still going strong!

haha I love that this worked out for you. Our first semester of law school there were SO many hookups and blowouts and subsequent dramallamas that my first and only advice to new law students each year became: Don’t hook up with anyone from law school during your first year of law school.

I’m very glad that in some cases, my advice was wrong :)

@Nicole: Agreed!
@bRooklynRocks: Ugghhhh…rule against perpetuity makes my brain hurt. I cried after our contracts final, not because it was ridiculously hard, but because I was so happy it was over.
@Miss Canaras: I’m glad J went for it! Sometimes you just know, you know?
@CorgiTales: HA! I would totally give the same advice (that, or don’t go to law school). We were pretty smart and kept things discreet to try and stay out of the drama. There’s no place like law school though.

obstacles? Yep, there’s been plenty. How did we overcome them? DYNAMITE. Acme (think Looney Tunes ;) hehehehe )and lots of determination.

Seriously, though, we have had a lot of obstacles between us, not including our families (mine especially). Since we’d already kinda fallen apart once, we were determined to make it work.

That was eight years ago. I might not be the most patient person in the world, but I DO know how to wait (even if it IS impatiently, lol).

I swear you’re my doppleganger. My boy and I were in the same 1L section. He got called on in the very first class. He was dating another girl in law school. We were friends (for a few more years than you) before we figured out we were a perfect match. Congrats on surviving law school, the Bar, and finding love in the process. It’s a good ride, isn’t it?

Yay for happy endings and things working out how they are supposed to!

Did Mr. G and I have any obstacles in our relationship? We dated for a year, broke up, didn’t talk for a year and a half and then he e-mailed me last February. I pretty well told him, no way, no how are we getting back together. And…well…I think we know how that turned out since I’m now blogging about our upcoming wedding!
