I’ve been using the school holiday break to tackle a few little DIY-projects that I’ve been putting off. I started with our place cards: next up on the agenda were our table menus. Our venue gave us the option of printing them for us, but at $10 per menu, I balked & decided to do it ourselves.
I already knew that I wanted to keep the costs down – and I had the perfect solution in mind. I visited my favourite-store-of-all-time, Ikea, and stocked up on these babies:

Ah, love. You may have seen them around on the ‘Bee before (featured in Mrs Stripes‘ and Mrs Dolphin’s weddings, and probably more that I’ve forgotten!) and you’ll see them in the future, because at 99c a pop? They’re the perfect addition to your table. The fact that they’re double sided is even better, since it means I can get away with having one on each table, with menus facing in both directions.
There are lots of tutorials out there which give you pre-made templates and ideas to use the frames, but I knew I wanted to stick to the same vibe in all of our stationery. After a while spent in publisher working out the sizing/spacing, this is what I came up with:

This was just a mock-up to get an idea of sizing and fonts, but now I have a bigger decision to make: what colour paper/cardstock & ink to use to print it? The frames say they’re white, but they’re really more ivory (which is fine by me!) so I’m thinking of just finding an ivory shade & sticking with the dark grey/black ink. Here they are in all of their glory, looking slightly dwarfed by the giant Oscar-cat.

These will be just a part of our overall table decoration scheme, but I love that they were cheap and cheerful to make – and let’s face it, you can NEVER have too many photo frames in your house!
