Let’s talk about veils, baby! Yes, veils. Or headpieces. Or flowers. Or fascinators. Or hats. Or headbands. Or any other type of adornment that you wear on your cranium the day of your wedding.
As I think I have made it abundantly clear that I did not give much thought to my wedding dress prior to our engagement; I think it is safe for you to assume that I also had not included my wedding day accessories in our grandiose wedding plans and thoughts, either. Both dress and accessories were pushed aside in favor of focusing on reception details.
However, as I may or may not have also made abundantly clear, I am semi-obsessed with wedding blogs. (Side note: Mr. CA casually mentioned the other day that I am quite obsessive. I asked him why he thought this, and he noted that “all of your posts start with ’OMG I am obsessed with.’” I laughed heartily, but inside I smirked, because HAHA! He actually checks out Weddingbee! I knew it.)
In spite of my eyebrow issues, I do love all of the dreamy bridal shots, and the images of the bride getting ready. Inevitably, I always notice the beautiful and varied hairpieces that brides wear. Honestly, I think it is so cool that brides have been taking such creative leaps with their hairpieces in the last few years! Modern brides have so many options available to adorn their locks, and I couldn’t be happier.

Unfortunately, I am also terrible at making decisions, which means of course that I had no idea what to do for my headpiece. Multiple options = confused Candy Apple.
When I first started thinking about veils, I had in mind the huge, long, traditional cathedral-length veil. You know, like the one Princess Diana wore that basically stretched around the church. These veils are super formal, but they are just so dang elegant. They make me think of Prince Charming sweeping me off my feet (and then getting tangled in my long veil).

I feel like the last year has been the year of the birdcage veil. I love this look - short, simple, sweet. They just seem so chic to me; very trendy. I have seen these all over the place in wedding-land. And let’s just say it lends itself well to variations on the “traditional” birdcage: funky bunching, adding various other accessories such as bows or flowers, or other fabrics, such as tulle.

Birdcages are definitely versatile, and I think they actually go with quite a few styles of dresses and fabrics. Okay, I realize that second one isn’t exactly a birdcage. But, it was short. And I liked it. And it sort of reminded me of a birdcage veil.
I also like the super-funky, Bohemian headband look that seems to be cropping up more and more. To be honest, I am not stylish enough for this type of look, and I think I am a bit more formal than this look, but I still love seeing other brides pull it off. Jealous.

I am also really digging the fabric flowers and feather fascinators that brides are coming up with. There are countless ways you can personalize these babies! So much fun. This one below might be my favorite of the fabric flowers I have seen; so airy and light, and I love that lacy fabric they’ve used on the top flower.

I also at one point considered, but quickly nixed, a more elaborate flower headdress type of thing. Like this.

I realize this is totally funky and out-there, but I am in love with those pictures. The flowers just make everything look so organic and raw, and I love the ethereal feel they give to her look. Definitely makes me think of fairies and forest elves. Unfortunately, this really doesn’t fit with the tone of our wedding. Something similar could potentially work itself into my Junior BM’s hair, though. We’ll see.
And lastly, you have the medium-length veils—the elbow-length and fingertip-length. These are not as funky as some of the other veils, but I think they lend a nice, classics elegance to pictures. And, you get to do fun pictures like this:

What type of headpiece did you end up wearing? Did you go with a more traditional veil, or a funkier look like a fascinator or headband?
