About Mrs. Hyena

I Heart Pianos

April 18th, 2011 @ 9:41 am by Mrs. Hyena

I’ve just GOT to share some music I discovered! The contract with our church specifies that our ceremony music should be fitting of a Christian worship ceremony, and we needed some kind of pre-ceremony music. We’re not planning to hire ceremony musicians, so our music will be done through our church’s sound system.

While planning Bridesmaid A’s wedding, I discovered *clouds parting in the sky* the Vitamin String Quartet. VSQ is a group of musicians who cover current pop/rock songs using only string instruments, and they’re faaaabulous.

VSQ’s cover of Paramore’s “Hallelujah,” which I want to play as an “Everybody pay attention, we’re about to start the wedding” song! (Video via YouTube)

I love VSQ, but Mr. Hyena isn’t such a fan. (I probably went a little too nuts before A’s wedding.) Also, I don’t think they have covers of religious songs. I didn’t know where to start looking for instrumental Christian covers, so I went over to Pandora and started a Vitamin String Quartet channel. Along the way, a few religious instrumental songs popped up, and I jotted down the artists’ names so I could look them up on iTunes later.

And that, dear friends, is how I discovered this magic:

And this too:

I am so in love with piano music. I put together some mock ceremony playlists heavily featuring Misters David Nevue and Jim Brickman, followed by the awesome Paramore cover and ending with “our song”—Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road”—which we’re using as the processional. (This is the live version; we’re using the CD version.)

You guys, I love it! And yes, we only have one song for the processional. As you can see, it’s about four minutes long, and our church’s aisle is…about 20 feet tops. Everyone can just walk down to the same song, and I’ll walk in when it gets to the dramatic musical interlude. :)

For the recessional, this is what Mr. Hyena wants:

Boys. :) I’m giving him this one. He hasn’t asked for much. But I’m making him ask our pastor if he’ll allow us to use it.

What music are you using for your ceremony?

We’re using Taylor Swift’s Love Story on the piano for the processional. I heart it so bad!

We’re also having a GM and BM sing ‘I See the Light’ from Tangled with piano accompaniament for our sand ceremony.

My fiance and I both love VSQ and are planning on using some of their songs for the ceremony. I’m thinking of having the girls process to either “Bad Romance” or “Hey Ya”…most of the guests will have no clue that it’s not just pretty string quartetish music ;)

Wow…just got goosebumps, Hyena. We are using “If you Believe” by Jim Brickman as the processional music for the men and bridesmaids. (Haven’t chosen what I will walk in to yet) and “Bless the Broken Road” will be our first dance. Guess we both have good taste, eh?

I think it’s so cool that you’re letting Mr. H pick the recessional!

In other news, I’m glad to see that you’re having such success with planning your music, but I think you should know that you’re inducing a bit of a panic in me, since ceremony music is one of the 1500 things I haven’t even thought of yet. Thanks a lot, Hyena.

@Miss Pony: Someday I want to learn how to play too!
@ItsPronounced_ABear: Ohhh, I love the instrumental version of Love Story! So beautiful!
@wine_bride_2011: I also love the instrumental version of “Hey Ya.” Did you see the episode of Scrubs where Janitor gets married? It’s guitar version, but still so prettyyyy.
@Crown: That’s awesome that we’re using the same songs! Maybe we’re secret wedding twins. :)
@Miss Snow Cone: I’m sorry SC! Don’t panic, just write it down so you’ll remember later and keep an ear out!

We’re also relying heavily on modern piano music for our ceremony! And OMG to the Star Wars throne room song. ^_^ Such an epic piece of music!

I love Vitamin String Quartet! We have a selection of their songs starting out very mellow and then leading into Lady Gaga and ACDC for our cocktail hour! I listen to that same Pandora channel and love it while I am at work!!

My friends who got married last year recessed to the Throne Room theme - it was epic! And they entered their reception under an arch of lightsabers held up by the wedding party. The groom REALLY liked Star Wars, hah!
