About Mrs. Prairie Dog

My Sue Sylvester-inspired wedding band is in!

The Most Meaningful Jewelry I'll Ever Wear : wedding cincinnati rings Misc0301 misc+0301

Like Ms. Pain-au-Chocolat—who has a somewhat similar engagement ring—I went with a “complementary” wedding band. It was custom-designed to suit my solitaire OR to be worn alone, and I love it.

I want to tell you why I got this ring, when I originally intended to get a 2mm, unadorned band. When we were in high school, Pdog bought me some gorgeous diamond and sapphire earrings. (I’m cursing myself for not having a picture to show you.) I loved them, but they definitely weren’t “everyday” earrings. So I wore them to prom and later to a gala, but honestly, they didn’t get much wear because of their fanciness.

Somehow we came up with the idea of using the diamonds from those earrings for my wedding band. It worked out perfectly, and 22 of the 40 pave diamonds in my wedding band were given to me by Pdog at age seventeen. I am so in love with the fact that our history as a couple is welded right into my wedding band.

I know- my nails are the pinnacle of elegance. I swear I got them redone the same day this picture was taken, so don’t tell my mother, okay?

I don’t know if I’ll wear them together or on separate hands, but I do know this: I can’t wait to wear that wedding band for the rest of my life.

Did you get a matching band or a complementary one? Anybody else manage to take already-meaningful stones and incorporate them into your wedding set? I’ve heard of people re-setting their mother or grandmothers’ rings, and I love that!

P-dog, no one is looking at your nails, they’re looking at that dazzler on your hand! Sparkles GALORE! Woo!

And more mildly - very pretty. :)

And ps, any boy who gives a girl diamonds at 19 is special indeed.

So sweet! And beautiful. There was a sapphire band at the jewelry store I actually really wanted as a wedding band but alas it was too wide for my little finger.

I love the idea that some stones were given before by your soon to be husband!!

I did pick my wedding band to go well with my e-ring, my ring has a solitare diamond and my weddingband has three little ones.. my fiancee’s is the same band, without the stones.

I love your jewellery ‘recycling’. Definitely makes your wedding band that much more special. It’s beautiful btw.

I love that you used existing stones! I did the same thing for my wedding band except they had belonged to my grandmother.

They look fantastic. Alone or together, they’re spectacular either way.

My e-ring’s center stone is a fourth generation blue diamond all the way from Portugal and the pave set accent diamonds are from my mom’s wedding ring. It is so meaningful to me to have so much history in my ring. I love it and can’t wait for the day when I give it to my own daughter to tear apaprt (I tore apart my mom’s original e-ring and weddding band to create my own) so she can have her own unique engagement ring with even more history.

I love your wedding band! You knew that was coming, huh? It’s nice that they work together and separately if you do decide to wear one on each hand. Super sweet that you were able to incorporate the diamonds from a meaningful piece of jewelry! (I went the opposite route and SOLD un-meaningful jewelry to offset the cost. bwahahaha)

I got a complimentary one, but I don’t like how my rings fit together due to my bony fingers. I think yours look stunning together though!

love the bling :)

In other news, your nails in that pic look about 1000 times better than mine on any given day. Don’t beat yourself up so much ;)

@jillocb: i know…what a smooth operator, that teenage PDog…

@Damselfly: i was worried about the criss-cross design because i have small fingers too (size 4), but the jeweler pulled it off beautifully!

@Lighter: aw, love that!

@Cee-Bee: thank you!

@Mrs. Seashell: that is so special- to keep something of your grandmother’s so close to you all the time

@Sunlavender: thanks! i like them each alone too :)

@Kcoleybear: that is so beautiful!!!

@Miss Ostrich: thanks lady!

@Miss Pain au Chocolat: ooh that’s smart to turn in unused jewelry! i couldn’t bear to part with the leftover loose sapphires, so they gave them back to me in a little plastic baggy. i keep jokingly trying to pay people with a bag of jewels, which is actually probably a good way to get robbed.

@Miss Snow Cone: why can’t my nail just grow in pink, you know? i ask so little of you, evolution!
