Clutch What?

April 20th, 2011 @ 2:51 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

I have to admit, I get a little confused when people talk about finding the perfect bridal clutch or purse. When, as a bride, do you actually use it? Where does it go? You’re probably not carrying it down the aisle, it isn’t under your arm while you’re dancing, and you can’t cut the cake with a purse in your hand. And bridesmaids, too! I’ve seen some cute wedding photos where the bridesmaids have matching pretty clutches instead of bouquets, but I see those way less than I see BMs carrying flowers, and yet people still buy them matching clutches.

Clutch What? : wedding bridesmaid gift calgary Il 570x01

Clutch What? : wedding bridesmaid gift calgary Il 570x02

(all three gorgeous clutches by eclu - peony clutch, sash clutch, bow clutch)

I don’t really want to be worrying about where my wallet is on my wedding day, so I was planning on locking it in the safe in the hotel room. I figured I’d stick my room key in Cinnamon Buns’ suit pocket (rawr!), and hide a tube of whatever lip product I’m wearing into the bottom of a bathroom basket or something. I suppose the bridesmaids might need more things, like car keys? But, I’ve never seen pictures of bridesmaids walking down the aisle with a bouquet in one hand and a clutch in the other. WHERE DO THEY GO?!

Please tell me, hive, what happens to these pretty purses? What goes in them, especially the bride’s? Do we need them?

Oh thank you for this post Miss CB! I have been questioning the same thing. I never take a purse if I am going out dancing because I don’t want to carry it around so why will I want to carry one on my wedding day? Yet my BM keeps telling me I need one. I can’t even think of what I would put in it?!?

So true. I think if anything, if there is a bridal suite they keep them there until after they walk down the aisle–or in the wait room of a church. But then when they walk into the reception, where are the purses? They aren’t announced holding onto their paired up groomsmen with one arm, a bouquet in another and then a purse wedged into their armpits. It is kind of silly for the matching clutches. It may just have to be one of those last minute things where you ask a parent to carry them all in and hide them under the bridal party table until everyone gets in. Good question though…hmm…

I have a small beaded clutch that was my great grandmothers - otherwise I wouldn’t bother!!

as for a bride carrying one…not necessary at all I believe. If i really need something, either Mr. Maguire will be able to fit it into his pocket, or my MOH can hold onto it for me. It’s our day bees–we don’t need to worry about losing our purse or whatnot! ;-P

BAHAHA I was wondering this same thing!!! Although I know that inevitably I will end up with one, just because they’re so dang cute.

My MOH will have a matching one in our colour (hot pink!) but not me. She will be carrying whatever she needs PLUS whatever I need. I assume her husband will hold on to it during the ceremony as she is not going to be carrying it down the aisle with her! That’s what MOHs are for right? So the bride doesn’t have to carry anything!!!

My bridesmaids dresses have pockets!! Which they love, and you can’t tell if there is something in their pockets or not because of the way the dress is made. So they can have their keys in their pocket during the ceremony if they like :)

I’m a clutch-holding bride! Okay, I’m not going to carry it around with me, but I am going to have it on our sweetheart table to stash lipgloss, mints, any good luck charms, etc. I don’t want to leave that stuff in the bathroom or leave the Mr. in charge of it. It makes much more sense to me to have something close to you that accents your outfit than to try to track down a dancing bridesmaid when you need a touchup…

When I was a BM last summer, we left our purses/clutches/bags-o-crap in the bridal suite area of the chapel and then retrieved them after the fact. I usually try not to carry much though–lip stuff, keys, debit card and ID to get my drink on. Mr. Pony usually end up with it in his possession anyway.

I love the idea of having the absolute essentials in a purty clutch at the sweetheart table. No need to bring anything of value like money or ID, but some lip gloss, mints, hanky and mini-mirror will keep Mr. Crown’s pockets from bulging, and I can access them any time I need them.

I have a Bride tote to carry all of my stuff. I have diabetes so I need something to carry my glucose monitor, candy, and all other essentials. I’m leaving it on my bridesmaid’s baby carriage.

My girls are carrying them down the aisle instead of flowers. Its cheaper and its part of their gift. I will put some lipgloss in there along with an ER kit :)

ummm mine was in one photo and guess what it stayed on the table where we got ready ALL NIGHT long…it was rather a pointless purchase, but looked cute in the photos and now I have a purple clutch for future events.

Every time I’ve been in a wedding party, I’ve gotten a clutch. During the ceremony, I’ll leave it in the getting-ready room. Then take it with me to the reception, and leave it at my table while dancing, getting a drink, etc…

With all those photos, I always wanted to make sure I had some lip gloss/chapstick handy. Then you’re not worrying your guests when you go to the bathroom every 5 minutes!

I am totally with you about not understanding the need for a clutch. Right up until I saw the photos you posted. And now I’m starting to wonder if perhaps we DO need them. SOOOOO cute. Especially the ‘bow’ one. I have three bridesmaids and couldn’t decide what to get them as gifts. Maybe I’ll have to get them those clutches….

I had the same confusion. There was a bridal apartment in my venue where all my stuff was stored, and to which I returned every time I used the bathroom. Why would I stuff a lip gloss and/or wallet and cell phone or whatever into a purse? I suppose these are more for brides who don’t have a private room adjacent to their venue, and want to have easy access to touch-up supplies.
