Falling for a Font

April 20th, 2011 @ 9:43 am by Mrs. Pony

One great piece of advice I made sure to follow after getting engaged was to wait and do my research before booking any vendors or buying anything wedding related. I heard this advice from all over the place—the web, my friends, family, potential vendors, strangers on the street…you get the idea.  But what great advice it is! Planning a wedding requires a million and ten decisions to be made; even the most decisive person is bound to buy something that goes unused for the wedding.

Taking this lesson to heart, I waited and waited and waited to buy anything. (It helped that I was pretty much broke.) I wanted to have a clear idea of our colors, the atmosphere, and the design before spending our money on anything for the wedding.

Eventually, I caved. I. HAD. to. buy. something.

The majority of my summer last year was spent staring at bar-prep books and being stressed. I decided I needed a mental break. A pretty, creative mental break from all the boring law stuff. I knew exactly what I wanted. Not a dress. Not shoes. A font.

A looooong time ago I fell in love with Feel Script font when Mrs. Lemon discussed its beauty and splendor. It was love at first sight. I loved the vintage feel. And the curves. And the glyphs (even though I didn’t know what that meant). So, I paid the $99, downloaded my new beauty, and immediately began typing anything and everything I could think of in my new typeface. Even though we did not have many of our wedding design decisions made, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, and I can’t wait to slap this font onto anything and everything for the Pony wedding!

What was your first wedding purchase? Did you end up regretting it or loving it?

PS: I don’t work for Veer—I just really love the Feel Script font.

I am obsessed with fonts. Love this one! :) Very elegant, yet modern.

Aside from booking vendors, my first purchase was the return-address stamp.

Good, good choice. I also loved your comment about loving glyphs without knowing what they were… that’s pretty similar to my font adoration style, too. Anything that can be described as “loopy” or “pretty” fits the bill for me, haha!

haha, sounds like my obsession with Freebooter Script, luckily my font obsession was free. But it’s ALL OVER our wedding stuff

My first wedding purchase was 16 3 foot shepherd’s hooks from Dollar Tree. I’d been hearing about them on the boards and when I found them at my local store I knew I *had* to get them before they were snatched up! So I bought them 14 months before our wedding (!) and am sure I’ll find a use for them.

And btw, gorgeous font! Reminds me of some of the script fonts in the Charles Bluemlein collection, which I love!

Love Feel Script! My first purchase was a graphic from iStockPhoto. :) We used the birds throughout our stationery, so thankfully it ended up being a great investment!

@Miss Hyena: I guess it is good if you don’t remember, that means you don’t regret it, right?
@Miss Candy Apple: I love address stamps, but I have resisted buying one. Yours is so pretty!
@Miss Snow Cone: Yeah, we sound like we are really hard to please for fonts.
@ktisthatbees: I’ve gone slap happy putting it everywhere, hopefully others like it, cause they are going to see a lot of it! Freebooter is very pretty and FREE!! You are smarter than I my friend.
@toshella: At least they were a good deal! There’s so much great inspiration featuring shepherd’s hooks, I’m sure you’ll find something wonderful to do with them! Charles Bluemlein fonts are great! I have to resist from buying any more though.

Ahhh! I am so ridiculously in love with that font! I also fell in love with it with Mrs. Lemon’s introduction and I have never looked back. I have downloaded the free alternatives - both Mahogany & Monterey - but I will never be happy until I am the prowd owner (and typer) of the Feel Script! Super jealous! Enjoy it :)

Loooove the font you’re using!!!!

I am a font ADDICT (to use polite words, hehehehehe). I have several CDs plus tons of fonts I’ve downloaded.

I do not purchase fonts online when I’ve got cd’s AND can usually find them free online. If not the exact same one, then one pretty close.

My ultimate favorites are the black letter fonts and “medieval” styles. As well as the ‘parchment’ and script fonts.

I got Feel Script for our invites wayyy back when, and used it on our STDs, but didn’t use it on anything else. Hahaha! I love it though - it always looks good!

@Miss Ostrich: I know the feeling! It still makes me giddy when I look at all the pretty swirls…
@didymoose3: Exactly how I felt, which is why in a moment of self pity I just spent the money on feel script and I’ve been loving it ever since.
@Ryna: That’s a lot of fonts! It is so easy to get addicted though.
@xtatic1: Thanks, I love it!
@Miss Giraffe: Ha! I remember seeing it on your STDs! I can’t wait to see what awesomeness you picked out for your invitations!
@Mr. Bowtie: True dat.

Ooooooh pretty! I really dig this font, Pony :) I’ve been racking my brain for the last ten minutes trying to remember my first purchase; I think it was an address box? Meh. Who knows. I bought way too much (way too soon).

I love this font. Our first wedding purchase was a bunch of fake flowers from Michael’s- we picked out some that we thought were pretty and based our whole wedding theme and color palette around them.
