About Mrs. Lox

Let’s Talk Numbers

April 22nd, 2011 @ 5:05 pm by Mrs. Lox

Mr. Lox and I finally have the complete set of numbers to give to the venue. So I thought, in the interest of full disclosure, that I would share them here. I’m going to limit our discussion to the adults we invited. As we’ve discussed before, we invited everyone’s children. However, a lot of folks chose to leave the young ones at home, so including the children in our numbers doesn’t give an accurate sense of our acceptance rate. And honestly, I’m pretty pleased with where we landed so I wanted you all to get a solid idea of it.

Here we go!

Total # invited: 70
OOT Guests: 9
“Local” Guests: 61
Total # of Invitations Sent: 40

Local is in quotations for a reason.

Our wedding is an hour away from our house and at least that far away from the majority of our local guests. So even though they are all in this general vicinity, everyone is putting up with a bit of a drive to share in this day with us.

Total # of RSVPs Received: 34
OOT Declines: 6
“Local” Declines: 14
OOT Accepts: 3
“Local” Accepts: 47

Total number of meals we will be providing: 50 adults (+2 for Mr. Lox and me!), 8 children, and 5 vendors

Yes, there are 6 RSVP cards I simply never received. Those stragglers have been hunted down and answers have been extracted. But let’s talk about the ugly for a moment. The majority of the non-responders were my family. And I have to tell you, I expected to have to hunt people. I did NOT expect to have to hunt down my grandmother, for example. And did I know she probably wasn’t coming? Yes, yes I did. Was I hurt? I won’t lie…a little. But I’d always known this was likely to happen due to my issues with her son (both of my parents are only children, so we’re not talking uncles here folks). However, I was still hurt that not only could she not still be there for *me*, but that she felt that since she wasn’t coming there was no need to send in the card. I know, I know… and I’m working on building the bridge and getting over it. Maybe one of these days that will work out for me. ;)

Let’s not end on a sour note. Our original projections to the venue and our baker was 60-65 people. We set our minimum low at the venue so we didn’t get stuck with extra costs. We told them 50 and they set the minimum at 45. Those totals are all for full-price adult guests. We came in at 52 adults. Including ourselves, we hit 60 guests total with 52 adults and 8 children. Additionally we will be providing 5 vendor meals. (Important distinction because vendors and children are half price!)

So there it is, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Luckily for us, mostly good. Have you gotten through the RSVP gauntlet yet? How did you fare?

My own grandmother hasn’t RSVPd yet either! I’m getting an awful lot of “Well you know we’re coming…”. Who cares, the card is pre-stamped, just check off what you want for dinner and throw it in your mailbox! I expect massive chasing will be in my future…

We mailed our a week ago today and have received 4 RSVPs per day this week starting Tuesday! It is so exciting to check the mail again! Nice to know about vendor meals, I hope our venue does that too!

I sent one ‘test’ invite to my bridesmaid a few weeks back to ensure I didn’t need additional postage/my ink didn’t run, whatever.

She got her invite 3 weeks before everyone else. Yet we’ve gotten 15 RSVP cards back - but not hers… I asked her if she was ever going to get around to sending it… and she said ‘I need to mail that? Don’t you know I’m coming?’

JUST PUT THE CARD IN THE MAIL!

I feel so bad now that I’m in wedding world, because I totally used to be a bad RSVPer. I didn’t do it on purpose, of course, but one time it was because I honestly didn’t know until the last minute if I’d be able to make it, and I didn’t know if it would be worse to RSVP yes and not make it, or RSVP no and show up (luckily they had a buffet and extra space, and the bride and I are very alike so she just planned on me being there). Another time it was my FI’s uncle, and I thought FI had taken care of it (this was a couple years ago, I know now to take care of important things myself!). I’m sure there were others, that’s just the most recent two.

I totally have bad RSVP karma coming to me. :)

I’m glad your numbers worked out so well, and I do hope things work out with grandma before it’s too late. I know how that goes, though for a little different reason.

60… That’s “PERFECT”… at least according to ancient mathematicians! Sixty is unitary, perfect, regular, and has more factors than any of the first 100 numbers.

Consider your count of 60 to be lucky!

60 is a magical number, Loxy. :) Final number twins! I’m sorry you had to deal with the frustration of hunting down the stragglers. You’ll be surrounded by so much love the day of that it’ll build the bridge for you!

I totally agree! It’s not that hard to reply especially after we stress ourselves out over making sure we have the perfect invites…its like a bit of a slap in the face! I had my guests rsvp via email and they are still slacking on responding!

@MrsIreland, Oh, don’t you just know it! I’m sooo in the same boat and I cringe now thinking of all the stuff I used to do. Cheers to living and learning!

Our deadline was last Saturday, and the four non-responders were all family, two mine and two his. I did have several friends say “can’t I just tell you I am coming?” to which I replied, “just mail the card, it has a stamp on it!”. I have wedding brain and cannot remember without the cards! Our final numbers are 84 yes, 19 no. We were aiming for 75, so not bad. Have to update the table plan for 9 more, though.

I used to be really slow to RSVP, especially when it was obvious I’d be in attendance. Now, I’m much more sensitive to this touchy issue. I can totally understand your frustration with your family. Even though that wasn’t pleasant, at least you ended up in the green zone for your total head count! Congrats!

Of course, after I wrote this we checked with the one girl who had a yet unnamed plus one (even though she wasn’t given one… another story entirely there…) just to get her guest’s name. And oh by the way, she isn’t bringing anyone after all. So no more perfect 60 for me. And also… WHEN WAS SHE PLANNING ON TELLING US???

I’m so nervous about this whole RSVP business (in fact, I had a nightmare about it just last evening). I, like Miss SC, used to be very terrible at returning RSVPs and fear I have some major karma comin’ my way (I swear I’m now reformed!) Anyhow, Lox, I totally understand your frustrations—though your grandma was somewhat expected to not come, the courtesy of a response would have been nice. I’m glad everything is mostly good though! Look at all those wonderful people you have comin’ ;) Woohoo!

Our RSVPs are starting to roll in. My mom actually said, “I guess I should probably mail back the RSVP card you gave us since you put a stamp on it, right?” Why yes!!

I’ll be honest, there are some folks we know can’t come. I hope that they hurry up and send us their no’s so that I can activate our B list since it is a bit of a destination wedding after all.

Sorry about your grandma Lox. :(
