The Other Wedding

April 22nd, 2011 @ 4:19 pm by Mrs. Pony

Sometimes I get sad that we won’t be able to have the rustic wedding in the woods that we originally envisioned. I spent a good six months researching and planning this rustic-yet-elegant wooded affair, and sometimes it is hard to stop myself from collecting and cataloging ideas for that type of wedding. I do love our new ceremony location (See what I did? I called it new even though we never “had” the other location—clearly I need more time to heal.), but I still get jealous when I see images like these:

I also see inspiration at some of my favorite stores when I am shopping for myself others. Others…riiiight.

Wouldn’t these be perfect for a rustic wedding in the woods?

A rustic-chic guest book pencil, anyone?

A delightful cake stand:

These pictures make me want to cheat on our wedding and love on all these rustic wedding ideas I keep seeing everywhere, but I will be true to our wedding. It is not cheating if I just look at this stuff, though, right? I mean, the wedding blogs make me look at this stuff—I swear!

Do you sometimes want to cheat on your wedding with details of another theme?

I received that EXACT pencil as a holiday gift from a student this year! Wierd…Too bad it was after my wedding or I probably would’ve incorporated it!

I know you’re probably too far gone for this now, but couldn’t you have a rustic Vineyard wedding? I know ours will be a little vintagy vineyard, but I could easily imagine rustic even if you don’t have all the trees and woods around you. Just a thought.

@Mrs. Trail Mix: That’s so weird!
@toshella: I totally would have done a rustic vineyard wedding, but our reception space is too formal for it (so says my mom), so we had to sack it. It’s tough to get over though.

I’ve totally been tempted to cheat, especially when I see photos of modern, edgy weddings! I adore the rustic look, though. That cake stand has long been one of my favorites!

Oh yes! I’m still mourning the vibriant fiesta wedding that we won’t be having.

It’s not that I don’t love our modern-bohemian urban wedding, but I still look all the inspiration clips and resources together and get wistful.

Sometimes I’d like our wedding to be a little more elegant, but then that wouldn’t be us, so I guess I’m good with it. :)

I know exactly how you feel! We were planning a beautiful outdoor early September wedding, but we had to change it because my fiancé’s sister is getting married and told us we had to change our date and it couldn’t be from May-October inclusive. I still get upset thinking about it. You could still use little things in your wedding though to help the feel of rustic. Even modern day weddings have influences from the Victorian ages. Your wedding can have rustic touches :)

Maybe there’s hope for a rustic-themed rehearsal dinner?? Either way, I’m sure you’ll fall more and more in love with the wedding as it is, and the bittersweet memories of the wedding that could have been will fade into the background.

I’m diggin’ on Miss SC’s idea! Why not a rustic RD!? And yes, I (the one planning a fancy black-tie shindig) sometimes (secretly…shh!) yearn for a shabby chic outdoor wedding!!! Milk vases, bunting, succulents, aged wooden signs…ahhhhh, I could go on ;)
