Something I haven’t mentioned around here is this ooone tiny little detail—we are having a second reception in NY.
Recently, I’ve been talking to some friends who were having the problem of location; so many couples I know come from different states, if not opposite sides of the country. It can be so stressful to figure out where to have the wedding because sometimes, just choosing the location automatically means that certain people in your life can’t (or won’t) go. I can’t tell you how many people have given me the FACE and the incredulous/pouty “Why aren’t you having the wedding HERE???”
I’m not sure those people really understand that this was not an easy decision for us, much less for me, since it means that most of the people who won’t be able to go are the ones from my side and not Mr. Crepe’s. So I just take a deep breath, smile, and give them the top 3 reasons why: we wanted Mr. Crepe’s father to marry us, the location is gorgeous, and our budget gets stretched a bit more in Nashville in comparison to NY.
Although that last detail hasn’t entirely been true, because so much of the wedding has been done online… but I digress.
I have a huge Chinese family and most of them are in the NYC area, so when it came time to decide on locations, my parents and I talked about what we could do to include the extended family. Since we were having the wedding in Nashville, my awesome parents decided that they would throw a banquet for us here, for the extended family and their family friends.
Since it’s a banquet dinner, there isn’t quite as much to plan for but I still wanted this to be special and add a couple of uniquely-us details. That’s for another post!
But this post? This post is about the DRESS.
When I was a little girl, I loved looking at my mom’s wedding banquet qipao. It was a gorgeous salmon/coral color with beading and sequins. I thought it was so incredibly cool and unique that it wasn’t the traditional red that everyone else seemed to wear. She wore it with a white furry wrap and I thought it was all so glamorous! When I was a junior in high school, I wore it to a school event:

Me & my beautiful MOH.
And…that was the very last time I was able to fit into it. (My mama was a tiny, tiny lady.) If I could, I’d wear it to my own banquet. Since that definitely isn’t an option, I started the search for a qipao of my own.
Did you have an at home reception, too? What did you wear to yours?
