Hive, as I am sure you all have guessed by this point, I have decision-anxiety. I just have the most ridiculously difficult time making wedding-related decisions. There should be a support group. I really am surprised that I didn’t just say screw it for the bridesmaid dresses, and make them figure out how to do a pretty rainbow.

I seriously think this is the coolest thing. Ever. Someone please do this. {Picture by Laura Murray Photography/ Via Style Me Pretty}
But I think even then, I would have found some way to make an issue out of the colors, and make life difficult for all involved. No, instead I had to take myself through all of the different BM dress options out there. And back again. Because seriously, I couldn’t figure the whole BM dress conundrum out.
I kept trawling the web, trying to settle at least on a style of dress. I did like the whole ruffly look—very chic, and complemented my dress nicely (although in more of a dusky lavender purple). I particularly loved the fitted top, and the looser, more flowy bottom. I could also see my gals wearing something like this again, which is always a bonus. So this dress at least gave me some sort of direction.

I also liked this one-shoulder look; very chic and elegant, yet simple. It would also look nice on broad-shouldered gals like me (minimized broadness).

Now, random confession time: prior to becoming engaged, while I was checking various wedding photographers’ blogs because I like looking at pretty pictures, I came across my ideal bridesmaid dresses. Ideal. Honestly, they were perfect; one-shoulder type dresses in a silk chiffon-esque fabric, neutral shades, airy, light. However, since I wasn’t engaged, and wasn’t expecting Mr. CA to propose anytime soon, I didn’t make a note of the designer or where the dress was from. In the words of the wisest of men, Antoine Dodson, I am so dumb, I am really dumb. Fo real (Okay, I seriously can’t type that without going to watch the video. I’ve already seen it 1021 times. You should go watch it. Now).
But, of course, once I got engaged, I couldn’t find that elusive perfect dress again, and couldn’t seem to find any other nice one-shoulder dresses in the colors and fabrics that I wanted. So I kept searching. And then I came across this lovely Washington wedding. And I fell in love. With a dress.

Floaty. Light. Beautiful. I loved the Taryn dress from J. Crew. I even loved the grey, although I was seriously hoping for lavender. So I went to J. Crew’s website as fast as my little keyboard could take me, and what did I find? This beauty.

Dusky lavender. The dress was seriously perfect—the style, the fabric, the color. But, wedding planning never goes that smoothly, does it? At least, not for this Candy Apple. Yeah, my BMs did not end up with that dress…
What did you look for in a bridesmaid dress? Did you hit any snags once you found the dresses you wanted? Did you find the perfect dress early in the process and let it get away, like I did?
