Gifts for Dudes

April 26th, 2011 @ 3:45 pm by Ms. Sloth

I’ve nailed down the gifts for my bridesmaids, but Mr. S is having a hard time figuring out what to buy for his three groomsmen. We bought them their ties, but other than that, we’ve got nuthin’.

When you Google “groomsmen gifts,” you get results like this:

These are all nice gifts, but Mr. S just isn’t feeling them for his guys. His brothers definitely won’t use a pocket watch, money clip or cufflinks. They’d probably use the booze-related gifts at some point if they had them, but Mr. S doesn’t think that those are useful and/or meaningful enough for the guys.

I suggested getting each of them a nice messenger bag, but Mr. S doesn’t think they’d use them, either.

He said to me, “Can’t I just get them a book?” and I think that the answer is yes. All of his groomsmen like to read, and a nice book, carefully selected, would be a great gift. But I think it would be nice to give them something more.

And that’s where I need your help, hive. I’m usually pretty good at this type of stuff, but I’m drawing a blank, and time is running out. Does anyone have any unique, meaningful, and useful ideas for groomsmen gifts, something beyond the standard engravables?

Help us, Hive! You’re our only hope!

In the South, the groom usually takes the groomsmen out for a golf game the day before the wedding as sort of a gift. Is there anything like that that Mr. S. likes to do with the guys? It’s not a bachelor-party type thing at all, it’s just a nice way to hang out and relax doing something they all enjoy, on the groom.

Barring that, bottles of nice liquor are popular.

All our groomsmen are into sports, even our jr. groomsmen loves football, baseball, hockey, and all those other sports out there. So we are going to hook them up with shirts and apparel from their favorite teams. Personalizing it for each groomsmen so they get their favorite team. With Hockey and Basketball seasons in playoffs right now we are going to wait until the seasons are over to go score some deals.

Some of our current ideas include Omaha Steaks and Ipod Nanos. I think the guys would be happy with either!

Our groomsmen are camping/grilling fans, so I’ve found so great options on this site: http://www.mygroomsmengifts.com

They even have a steak branding iron, that you can personalize :)

I think its great to have something in addition to the book, so you can cover both meaningful and fun!

You were on the right track suggesting the messenger bags, I think. But maybe go with something smaller… like a nice toiletries bag. Some sort of small tote that the boys would appreciate having but never buy for themselves. You can even tuck their books inside for gift presentation.

You could get them all Converse sneakers to wear for the reception. Or my husband got each of his groomsmen funny beer steins that they drank out of at our reception. Or cufflinks in fun shapes. They probably won’t use them often, but when they do, they’ll think of your wedding.

I got Nalgenes with a skin on them for my bridesmaids. Everyone at the rehearsal dinner wanted one. In fact, I left mine at someone’s house a month ago and she won’t give it back. Useful and awesome. Oh, our skin had the New River Gorge Bridge (where we were married) on it with the city and date of our wedding. Maybe something like that.

Love the book idea.

My fiance plans on paying for the tux rental for his guys. He may do something else too, but this one’s for sure.

We are having the same problem. I suggested a travel book for each of them and an Amazon gift card. He thinks a good headlamp might work, since a bunch of them like to camp. Groomsmen are VERY hard to buy for!!

Mr. H is really into cool tools, so he got his GMs these laser level thingies, plus a customized bottle opener.

We bought their wedding day attire (from Banana Republic) and are also treating them to golf the day before the wedding :)
My sister got her groomsmen Phillies Tickets- that was a big hit!

We’re having the same problem. :( Some ideas we’re throwing around are new wallets, iPod Nanos, Leathermans, or memberships to a Beer/Wine of the Month club.

What about a book-themed collection of gifts

-Book
-Barnes and Nobles gift card
-Book reading light for bedroom reading
-Bookmark
-Then maybe some kind of additional non-reading related gift like some scotch?

I once saw beer/beverage coolers with a monogram on them, and i sort of wanted one for myself haha! I think they will definitely get used a lot more than most traditional groomsmen gifts were.

What about getting each a kindle or a nook? Then you could load a great book onto each one for them, or give them a kindle gift card to get their own books. I’m not sure if you could engrave it, but you might be able to engrave a cover or sleeve for it.

My hubby got all of his groomsmen some cool, hipster sunglasses (Ray-Bans). It was a great photo op, and the guys loved them. It’s not super meaningful I guess…but when they wear them, they will always think of your wedding.

Guys are so much harder to shop for! My FH has been in a ton of weddings and the one gift he still uses all the time is the leatherman. We are thinking monogrammed BBQ stuff from Williams Sonoma.
