What’s up, hive? How was everyone’s Easter weekend? Mine was a bit of a whirlwind, which is why I’ve been a little absent over the past couple of days. I hope you can forgive me; I’m back and I have some great stuff to show you!
So what was I up to? Well, Mom Sparkler surprised me big time by buying me a ticket home to Virginia for the weekend (thank you, thank you, THANK YOU
). I got to spend two awesome days cruising around the Potomac, grubbing awesome food, and basically having the greatest time ever with my favorite people in the world, aka: The Sparkler Sisters:

The girls… brother Sparkler is still gallivanting around Europe. We missed you bro!
In between the delicious food and good conversation, the Sparkler gang actually accomplished a lot of wedding-related tasks (yay for productivity!). We confirmed that, YES, everyone had ordered their bridesmaids’ dresses, we locked down a date for Mom to come to Chi for our menu tasting, we solidified wedding-week accommodations for close family (more on that in the next post), and we found Dad’s saber for the cake cutting.

Warning: Sparkler with a deadly weapon

The detail is pretty amazing
Then, while eating Easter dinner at my grandma’s (or “Busia,” for my fellow Polish grandkids
), I found the greatest surprise of the entire weekend.
My grandparents had recently cleaned out some cabinets in their basement, and one of the things they found hiding underneath their other treasures was my grandma’s wedding dress. It was gorgeous. While it hadn’t been preserved, the faded color did nothing to take away from the beauty of the gown. The handmade lace, the scalloped edges, the fitted bodice and pleated neckline… it was all stunning. And I was surprised at how emotional I was when I saw her dress. I’ve always felt very close to my grandma, and seeing this beautiful reminder of her wedding day really moved me. It was how I hope my grandchildren will feel one day, when I can share my wedding keepsakes with them.
I wish I would have had my good camera with me but, like I said, I wasn’t expecting such a find!

It was kind of funny to see something so pretty hanging in the basement

The beautiful HAND STITCHED detail (wow)

I loved the pleated neckline
If I would have known about the dress earlier, I think I would have asked to wear it. Although, it might not have fit! Busia was teeny-tiny!
Was anyone else emotionally moved when a family member (or friend!) shared their wedding day memories?
