Well, lady may be a stretch, but I’m working hard to keep some Virginia charm in our sleek, urban, wedding-palooza! I’m addicted to marathons, not-so-famous bands, Chicago restaurants, and Mark Twain. I cry during SPCA commercials, and I think LOST was the best show to ever hit television. Mr. S and I met at a classy college mixer and, 7 years later, he’s still by my side. He’s the only child, laid back, free spirit... I’m the oldest of five kids, type-A, organizer. About Mrs. Sparkler

I guess my dirty little secret is out. As I sit here, cuddled up with some English breakfast tea in my Will and Kate mug, I realize that everyone will now know about my obsession with the royal wedding. I tried to hide it for too long. I knew it would come out eventually. And I still denied my addiction. Can you blame me? I mean, I’m getting married a few short months after a prince and princess. That’s enough to take any bride’s brain into complete wedding overload. Anyway, before you run away thinking I’m crazy, here are my predictions for the wedding of the century. Let’s start with the most important detail:

The Dress

Can you imagine being Kate Middleton? Deciding on a dress that will influence bridal fashion for possibly the next 10 years… or more? What a mountain of pressure. But you know what? I think she’s loving it. She has always been so fashionable, so sure of what she likes, and totally certain of what looks good on her body. I have a feeling she knew exactly what she wanted from the start.

For those reasons, I’m going to guess that Kate has chosen a designer that we haven’t really heard of in the States, and I think her gown will include three specific details:

1. Sleeves

I will be shocked if she walks into Westminster with bare arms. Not because I think that’s faux pas or anything, but Kate is a classy broad. And I don’t think she’ll go that modern. I’m thinking she will rock a sheer three-quarter to full length sleeve, either in lace or simple sheer fabric. Or maybe I’m just having a love affair with the sheer sleeves I saw on the Fall 2011 runway… ala Valentino and Stella McCartney. Maybe.

2. Emphasis on her natural waist

Wrap dresses, cinched coats, and preppy blazers are all part of Kate’s go-to wardrobe items. And for good reason! She’s itty-bitty, and those items show off her toned waist. I’m betting her dress will highlight that area as well.

3. A fitted silhouette

Basically, I’m calling no ball gowns. I just don’t see it.

The Veil

I don’t think Kate will do a cathedral length veil. Rather, I think she’ll go for the chapel length, just touching the floor. What I’d really LOVE to see? This:

Twigs and Honey

Can you imagine the trends she would start? Ugh… love.

I’m also guessing her hair will stay at least halfway down. I can’t remember seeing more than one or two photos of Kate with her hair up, so I doubt she’ll break away from her signature down-do.

The Accessories

Kate’s jewelry will probably be her “Something Borrowed.” Wouldn’t you do the same if you had a closet of royal jewels at your disposal? I think we’ll see something from either Diana’s or Queen Elizabeth’s personal collection.

I think her shoes will be a well known designer. For. Sure. Kate can take more of a risk with the shoes, but I still think they’ll be classic white or ivory heels, with a touch of embellishment.

Perhaps something like these Giuseppe Zanottis? / Net-a-porter

As far as hair accessories go, I don’t think Kate will wear a tiara. But I think we’ll see something sparkly up there. Perhaps a brooch or hair pin.

The Ceremony

Just for fun, I’m going to throw out and exact number. I’m thinking the ceremony (from the time she steps out of the Rolls Royce, until the moment they walk out the Abbey doors) will last 62 minutes. Fingers crossed.

As far as the bridal party is concerned, I think we’ll see a lot of white, pale blues and a touch of pale pink or nude. I think their flowers will reflect those colors, but also include a lot of fresh greenery. One thing I’m almost 100% certain about? Kate’s bouquet will contain a sprig of fresh myrtle.

The Cake

Seven tiers, mountains of sugar flowers, something sparkly. The End.

The First Dance

God Save the Queen? Kidding. I have no idea. But I’m hoping that either Elton John, or Jay Z and Beyonce provide the music. Seriously.

The Theme

I think this theme from the latest Martha Stewart Weddings would be perfect for Will and Kate.

I’d like to think the overall theme will be “English Garden,”  with focuses on lush floral arrangements (English rose?), candles, and elaborate place settings.

I’m also crossing my fingers that they throw an absolutely fabulous “after-party”: Navy and purple, tons of wash lighting, rock royalty, and cutting edge food. C’mon Will and Kate! Get your party on!

What are your predictions for the Royal Wedding? Are you getting up to watch? Don’t believe me about the aforementioned Will and Kate mug?

Okay, okay… so the mug is actually a gag gift for a friend. But still, this is actually in my house right now.

Hm. I don’t think sleeveless = not classy, exactly. To qualify her as classy because she isn’t going sleeveless is a little bit of a stretch to me.

I think she will have sleeves because it is the traditional thing to do in the British monarchy and there is definitely a pressure for her to have them.

I just wish that I had the body type for the first dress. I’m seriously drooling over it. Even though I think it’s neat that there is a royal wedding during my engagement, I honestly haven’t really been that interested in any of it - maybe because I was in love with Prince William as a teenager, and thought I would one day marry into the royal family?

The Monique Lhullier is to. die. for. I’m happy for Kate and Will…I’m keeping high hopes that their marriage will be happy and lifelong.

man you are good! im going to have to come back and check friday and see how spot on you were.

I heard on the radio today that prince harry has a “disco” planned for after the second reception that is suspected to go till 6 in the morning - they have transformed a room inside of the palace into a nightclub…he said he has requested bacon sandwiches for everyone who makes it to 6:00am. haha.

Ooooo - I really, REALLY hope they incorporate an after-party! They’re still so young and hip, and it would be a perfect break from all the formality!

Holy moly Sparkler, I think you’re “English Garden” theme prediction is pretty spot-on! I saw on one of the news shows tonight that they are bringing in maple trees to line the aisle, it looked gorgeous. They also mentioned that Kate’s sister wants to create a late-night disco too, complete with mirrorballs.

That mug is pretty amazing…
