Mrs. Tartlet's Picture
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MI Age and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical Student Engagement Date: May 2, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: The Royal Park Hotel About Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
About Mrs. Tartlet

We’ve seen the outside–now it’s time explore the contents of our wedding programs! I mollified some of my guilt over Mr. Tartlet doing the brunt of the work by designing the panels and printing them onto text weight speckletone kraft paper. They were cut to the final dimensions of 3-9/16″ x 4-13/16″, which left a small border all around. Aaaaaaand, there’s where my hand in this stops, because Mr. Tartlet promptly took over to stick them onto the accordion panel backing using 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive.

The first panel is a relationship timeline. I gobbled up inspiration from a number of ladies here at Weddingbee, as well as this timeline from 100 Layer Cake.

The second panel introduces our wedding party:

The third panel is our ceremony program. We embraced the idea of having a spiritual ceremony since we have a melting pot of faiths amongst our guests.

Because we had the space, we decided to make the programs “all-inclusive” and use the fourth panel to describe the delicious noms to come:

There were so many noms in fact, that it spilled over onto the fifth panel that also contained a note about our wedding favor donations:

The last panel contains a section honoring those whom we have loved and lost, as well as a thank you message to our beloved guests. I can’t claim credit for the wording; I’ve seen it around the wedding blog-o-sphere, so its definitely not original. But as the saying goes: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

All the pretties in a basket, ready to go!

Did you go with a traditional wedding program, or did you opt for an all-in-one sort of deal?

Where did you find such long paper to make the accordion paper? Was it already folded or did it need to be cut and folded? It looks awesome! These programs are one of the coolest DIY projects I’ve seen in a while. The end result looks totally worth all the effort!

@Mrs. Trail Mix, @Lighter: Thanks!
@Miss Pony: Thanks, Pony! We had enough random bits of paper lying around our apartment as it was, so it was definitely nice to have everything in once place for these. :)
@ButterflyDoll, @TinyTina, @stephbonthego: Thanks, ladies!

Yay for grooms involved in craftiness! Gonna save this post so I can show Mr. FW he’s not alone (as he often alleges). :-)

@shirasagi: Hi! I purchased large 20×26″ sheets from Paper Source. Mr. Tartlet cut them down to narrow strips (5×22.5″) and folded them prior to gluing them to the covers.
@Miss Seal, @Miss Candy Apple: Thanks, gals! :D

Love them. I like how you are getting your guests excited about the food during the ceremony!

I am also from MI! Go blue! I went to Albion College and I am currently in a Rutgers University grad program studying neuroscience.

It is good to know that someone else is dealing with the balance between this type of career and having a life outside of the lab so beautifully! I feel guilty sometimes doing a DIY project instead of working in the lab on a Sunday.

A-maz-ing!

Have you used this adhesive spray before? I’ve been having a hard time finding something that won’t warp the paper when it dries. I’m curious to know what you thought of it.

@Ms. Ferris Wheel: Mr. Tartlet is often embarrassed by his involvement in crafts. He’ll be glad to know he’s not alone, too. :)
@MCC919: Thank you!
@amethystmeg: Go Blue! And, I went to Kalamazoo College, so I’m very familiar with Albion! :D The guilt is the worst in grad school. I often felt like if I wasn’t living/eating/sleeping in lab that I was somehow slacking, but after a few years had to strike a healthier balance for my own sanity’s sake. My schedule is better now that I’m a post-doc; I try not to work more than a half-day on weekends if I can help it! Lots of experiment juju being sent your way!
@Cee-Bee: I swear by the spray adhesive. We’ve used a similar kind before for our invitations, but switched to the more heavy duty 3M Super 77 because we wanted to make sure the panels didn’t budge. We didn’t have any problems with warping after it dried, and Mr. T sprayed them inside of a box to avoid the adhesive getting all over everything in the apartment. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions about using it!
@miss.qwerty: Thanks, lady! :)
